The news that the UCI and Santini will be offering a new collection of rainbow bands clothing and accessories [through Decathlon stores] has proved surprisingly controversial. Hey, its a free country. Anyone is free to wear a World Champion jersey if they want to. And everyone else is free to mock them.

I tried wearing this on the local group ride a while ago but couldn't understand the reactions I was getting? Help me out here please.

Difference is wearing Tom Brady's jersey while watching a game vs RIDING yer bike while wearing an 'award' jersey. Do ya suppose 'normal' guys go out and play basketball wearing a Lebron James jersey? Bet that's pretty rare.

As an overweight, 'man of average stature'..B-Ball was never my thing but there ya go..I guess award type clothes is a cycling thing..but not a fan of riding with award jerseys but do what ya want..:)

Here's a 'story'....I always wondered why fans wore players jerseys but never manager's jerseys. I met a guy who was a pilot for the Rockies, in their leased jet. And he surprised me with a Jim Tracy jersey(manager of the Rockies-2009-2012)..when I asked the same thing. Wore it to a Rockies game after Tracy left and got more than a few, 'the bum' comments..not because I was wearing the jersey but they thought Jim Tracy, 'was a bum'..HA, found it.

They sell replica rings for stupid money (for a fake), though why on earth you'd want to wear one is beyond me.
The Rainbow stripes? If someone is dumb enough to think I was a World Champion because I have on the Stripes, well, I can't help them.
Now, show up to a RACE in them, no. That's the same as being in team kit. Worse, really, since a lot of "teams" you can buy your way into.

The attitude of stripes needing to be earned and harassment from other riders is quite off putting. Do we shame bicycle brands who put stripes on their frames even if that frame set was never in a professional race?
This idea that rainbow stripes are as sacred as something like a Purple Heart is really strange.
