measuring a bb spindle

Hey, this is probably a dumb question, except to me. I recently picked up a bb for a Campy Victory crankset. It's supposed to be 109mm. When I measure it, I get something closer to 114mm measuring end-to-end.

Now, is measuring spindle length more complicated then just measuring the end-to-end length? Is it some kind of nominal length like a 2x4? BTW, the only markings are 68-SSg.

normal method..

Normally, spindle length is measured just as you have described. It's the total length from one end to the other. If it wasn't it would be tough for the average user to measure. Are you using calipers?

Sheldon Brown has lots of general info here but very little info on Campy.

I checked out SB's site also, didn't see anything much there to help me out. I measured the spindle with a metric tape measure, so it's not perfect, but I don't think I'm that far off. But that's why I asked...
