Should It be a “this one goes to 11”, or should I try 12?


Anything I should know? Would love to hear from owners/ past owners and see some pics.

Always go current. Get the 12-speed. There’s no downside.

with campy 11-sp, you can use whatever wheels you wish, and can use inexpensive ultegra or 105 level 11-sp cassettes on shimano splined wheels.

if you go to 12, you must run a campagnolo freehub wheel.

whether that matters to you is another story, but that is, IMO - one of the current downsides and why i stuck with 11 on my last bike.

Gonna be campy regardless. I didn’t realize campy 12 hubs varied from the 11 ones. Do they?

I’m not sure I’ll ever go to 12 speed AXS. Don’t like the gearing, don’t like the proprietary chain, cassette, chain set, etc. And, don’t like the idea of changing out free hubs either.

I have a couple extra sets of etap 11 hrd. I’ll be good for a few years....:)

Campy hubs take 9/10/11, or 12

I think angry meant with 12 speed, your limited to only campy instead of running a Shimano 11 speed wheel set.


With no consideration to any of that...go for 12!!

Good deals around, even better than the older 11 speed group sets.

Thank goodness. That’s what I thought but then I’m known to make huge miscalculations like that.

Will take me a bit to gather the pieces so hopefully these 12 speed groups will still be a good deal when I’m ready.

I love my 12spd group. I would go record 12 without a second thought.

I'd also am solidly sticking with 11s for the ease of wheel swaps et al.

I even used a 10s shimano wheel with a trim of the RD the other day. I also use 11 speed cassettes with 10 shimano bikes with 11s chains. Like the last hold out on cross contamination benefit, like using 9 speed mtn DR with 10 speed road shifters etc.

I cycle around abut every few years with the non more plastic. I wind up back when certain things out of my control.. when my buying is out of control from being bored..

Am open to ideas but not ready to go to phase 2 yet.

Phase 1 frame....phase 2 group....phase3 wheels.

I love letting a frame hang for a while for inspiration.

First, congratulations!

Second, be aware...Colnago ownership is addictive. You start with one, then all of a sudden there's a Master Olympic in your stable, and then of course you need the representative C40. And since none of your bikes has the Mapei coloring you find another Master in Mapei. And then you decide you need a Saronni red Super. And an Arabesque, just because the lugs are so beautiful. And a Pista. And a C50 CX or maybe a Prestige CX.

Oh, and by the time you're done, you'll be on an E64. :)
