Spectrum ti - welds

Ok- I don’t like the look of the weld technique used on the Spectrum ti frames. I know they won’t fall sport, but every time I see one ore a close up pic I just don’t say anything. Until now,

Didn't I just read somewhere (here) that Seven is building all of Spectrum frames?

You want a top shelf Ti bike, get a Moots. They know how to weld.

you don't think seven knows how to weld?

looks fine to me

what I don't get, never have, about spectrum is... why not just go directly to seven and get your bike

Correct, seven builds them. They are sound bikes and well designed, I am just not a fan of the smoothed over technique.

Fit and design - from what I've heard - tubing spec, etc.

Difference in design philosophies between the two brands.

Why buy a Trek or Specialized when you can just buy a Giant?

My recollection is that Tom hand finishes them (the welds, by filing). I'd call him and see if he'd adjust his style for your preference.

Having met and ridden with Tom I get it. He's an amazing guy and I'd pay extra for his knowledge. I'd also recommend asking him to make you a cup of coffee. Seriously great stuff!

My understanding is Tom is using tubing spec'd for him, not Seven's tubing. They're just doing the fab work.

He certainly used to do that, not sure if they still do. I had a Spectrum back in the 90s and you could see lots of fine scratch marks around the welds. Tom clear coats his Ti frames so you couldn’t buff them out if you wanted to. I prefer Seven’s standard welds and raw tubes. Otherwise, Spectrum bikes are top notch.
