Using regular RD hanger on set-up that originally had direct mount hanger?
Does anyone know if this is possible?
I got my partner a new gravel bike, and she has managed to have taken a few tumbles (on the grass) since then. While she has gamely got back and continued, the original direct mount hanger is now bent, due to one of the tumbles. The bike was also shipped with a regular hanger, and it is currently set up with a 105 RD (7000 series), with a 11-34t cassette. Does anyone know if I can just use the shorter, regular hanger? Thanks in advance! FWIW, I have a long cage 8050 RD on my bike, and did not need to use a DM hanger, even though I have a 11-32t cassette. ETA: issue resolved. Apparently the standard hanger is okay for Sram, but the DM hanger is required for Shimano. Really odd |
You probably realize this already, but Shimano direct mount rear derailleurs ship with a link that adapts them to a standard hanger. There are probably a few floating around out there in bike shops or people’s parts bins. I can look for one in mine.

To be more clear DM goes with a DM hanger, DM with the adapter link can go on a standard hanger. You don’t mix the two and it really isn’t related to the size of cassette.

understood; thank you
I'll have to order the DM hanger (or two) |
