Some of the best cycling guides...are written for motorcycles.

Anyone else have a bunch of guide books written for motorcycles? I think they're (in general) more expansive and informative than strict cycling guides. Maybe because motorcyclists stay a little longer in the towns and use local restaurants, hotels, etc. But motorcyclists and cyclists like the same twisty, scenic roads so it makes sense.

Motorcycles don't care if the road has a shoulder.

I would not want to ride a bike on the Dragon's Tail, and that'll be in every motorcycle guide book and Top 10 US road list out there.

Motorcyclists love Route 97 along the Delaware River on the NY/PA border. It's not bad for cycling, but there are a lot of roads in the area that I prefer to ride on.

It's a great road to ride on a bicycle. The best day/time is during the Cherohala Challenge. That said, early in the morning on a mid-weekday is good as well. There are other great roads down there too, Rt 28, Foothills Parkway, Cherohala Skyway & Wayah Rd/Bald. I take a bike with me when I ride my motorcycle down there.

It's a great road, I'm not disputing that. But do I want to tangle with all the traffic that's on it on say a summer Saturday? Not really.

I won't even ride it on my motorcycle on the weekends. Weekdays, early, especially if it's rained or raining; it's a ghost town then.
