What model of Serotta is this?

Definitey not an Ottrott. I'm not familiar with the CSX model code. Obviously means Custom, but I'm not sure what the SX stands for.

good question. to be clear the code is XS not SX though.

could they have been a non series custom just for the team? maybe?

The second part of the serial number is typically the frame size, and this clearly isnt the case here either.

Good catch, first reference to the serial number in the listing must have been a typo. I think you're right and that the XS might literally stand for X (non), S (series). I.e. was surely loosely based on something but a full custom model built specifically for the team that was never sold otherwise so probably didn't get an actually model name at all.

It looks like one of the CX bikes that were built for the Jacques-Maynes brothers back in the Sierra Nevada days

I thought they were Legends and don’t remember the carbon back stay.

pretty cool bike though, for sure. a little too big for me, or i would be considering it!

Bruce K 04-22-2021 09:30 AM

I jumped a little too quick - brakes are wrong.

A little Google-fu brings up an image of a Sierra Nevada Cour d’ Acier team bike that looks EXACTLY like this bike.

Yeah I've never need a legend with an aero down tube like that, or an aero fork but that would be an easy swap.

Page 18 of the 2005 Serotta Catalog shows a CXII with an aero downtube and carbon seat stays....described as a tri-bike...maybe that's it?

Does anyone recognize a racer named J. Stewart whose name is on the TT? I see his name also in the eBay listing. If he was a road racer on Sierra Nevada Team I guess we could surmise what the design parameters for thsi bike might have been.

Jackson Stewart: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jackson_Stewart_(cyclist).

Probably close to a Fierte, or custom based on Fierte.

Bruce K 04-22-2021 10:37 AM

He ride fir Kodak Gallery / Sierra Nevada in 2006 and then represented the US at Worlds.

So they may have had some CXIIs but I think they rode mostly Couer d’ Aciers

I saw this on ebay
I didn't want to be hard on the guy but....
I have Serotta's
I own a Sierra Nevada Kodak Ottrot (signed by ben himself)
That is not an Ottrot
That bike imo does not fit a 5'10 person
I'm 510 and ride a 58
I can't ride like I used to but I know my Serotta's

According to Jackson Stewart's Wikipedia entry, he's 5'11".
