Office chairs
 

Alright folks:

Thought I'd pick your brains for a bit, but can anyone recommend a really good office chair? Since most of us spend a good time at the office pushing paper and then put a decent amount of miles on the saddle, what chairs can you recommend to mitigate the effects such as tight hip flexors and such? I was staring at some of the Herman Miller stuff, but I thought I'd get the 411 from you folks before I put down that kind of cash.

We have them in our office. Really nice with so many adjustments and very ergo. Yes they are expensive, but I believe they are worth the money in regard to comfort and support. We purchased four of them a little over two years ago and they really are fantastic and are well built.

I would try the Herman Millers for a while before buying them. Like a lot of saddles, they seem to either work for you or not. Despite the adjustability, I always seem to end up in uncomforable right angles with these chairs. I know that right angles are ergonomically sound, but unfortunately my posture is generally not, and the result is a lot of inconscious compensating and shifting to try to maintain my normal slouch. We have them in my office, and I'm convinced they're a big part of the reason my shoulder has been a mess for a while. (N.B. This was not the case when I had the run-of-the-mill, low-backed office chairs, which I used for years with no apparent shouder issues.)

i've had an herman miller for years. aeron?. it has a zillion adjustments. if you can't make this fit, nothing will. pricey but 2 thumbs up.

I recommend the HAG Capisco chair. It's comfortable for sitting for long periods and it excels at putting the body in a healthy position.

My Herman Miller Aeron has been a wonderful chair and IMHO it was worth the extra $$'s. As others have said, tons of adjustability and the fabric is nice and cool with its breathability.

And what other chair would you sit in if your rode an Arione saddle? :banana:

I have the older model of the HM Aeron. In my opinion this chair has been the best thing I've done for myself.

I had a cheap office chair that I got at the Office Depot. I felt tight and tired almost all the time. But once I started to use the HM it has been great!

Sometimes I am sore from riding but after sitting on this chair for some time I feel much better!

How is this for free advertising? ;)

Mr R, you are always on top of things aren't you??? Seems that Saddleco took the idea behind the Aeron chair and created a saddle with the same (or similar) material...check out the Flow

You didn't say what you do, or what your office looks like.

If you are in a creative field, you could go old school HermanMiller,
like Eames aluminum group, with the matching boardroom chairs too...

If your office is casual, put your feet up, you deserve it after a tough ride!

Another thumbs up for the Aeron. If you spend 8 hours a day sitting on one the price is nothing compared to the comfort.

i switched from sitting on a chair at work to sitting on a swiss ball. most comfy "chair" ever. plus it's a core workout and constantly reminds me not to slouch.

OK. I will tell you, but first realize that I had a wholesale meat business with a little office that was simple, dirty, and very old. Probably about 50 plus years old. However, I had the most comfortable chair of all times- A cheap wooden University chair, with my college logo on it. They are normally black in color.

I am sitting now on one of those chairs- A Tufts University (undergraduate) chair. I also have one from Penn State (graduate school). They are very comfortable and cheap but not so beautiful for a fancy dancy office.
