10 speed chains

Are 10 speed chains shimano or campy specific?

I will be running Campy componants but using a DA 10 speed cassette with the Jtek gizmo.

thanks, willy

Go with the shimano or sram chain. it will work a little better than the campy on a Shimano casette. Cheaper too.

There used to be a difference (Campy being 6.2 mm wide) but now they are all about 5.8 mm, so there shouldn't be much difference in the performance. The KMC DX10SC (presumably SC = shimano and campy) works well, comes with a quick link and is inexpensive.

I use a DA chain on all campy gruppo. I think it may run better.

As already noted, just about every current brand of 10 spoeed chain is now 5.9mm wide, so there is no width issue.

There is no reason a Campy UN chain won't work as well and although it may cost a little more, it will elongate at about 1/4 the rate of a Shimano chain, so it should last longer. With a well maintained Campy chain, elongation ( measured with a ruler) won't tell you when to change the chain. Roller and side wear rates are much larger. I alternate three chains at 2500 mile intervals (maximum), when my chains are about half worn. Each gets a second rotation and is trashed when the distance between the rollers gets into the .235-.240 range.

The KMC DX10XC chain seems to shift nicely and has a quick-link. I don't have any wear data yet, but I'm working on it. Performance has this chain on sale for $20-23. Might be the best deal out there. If I was paying $40 or more, I'd get a Campy UN.
