Favorite gravel wheels?
Looking for something in the tubeless 700c flavor that will take up to 42s. Not partial to any material, but bonus points if you are using them with Ekar.
What suggestions do you have? |
HED Belgium Plus.

Those FLO's for gravel? I don't care how they market them. 1900g and 55mm depth?? Better be pan flat and hard packed dirt. Need to know more to make recommendations. Type of riding, budget, lightweight or Clydesdale etc. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Beginning my gravel experience. Rides so far have been on gravel roads with varying surfaces. Some pretty packed & wash boarded, some looser. I know that doesn't help much. Not sticking to packed trails, but not planning to shun them, either. Pace would be considered "party" in most places. Enjoying the different views. Like to stay $1K or less, but for the right wheels I'd go a bit higher 160lb but am too high. Better at 145-153 Am a Campy guy & leaning to Ekar & 13 speeds |

I use the HED Emporia wheels and they have been flawless. For Ekar, the new Campy Shamal Carbon look pretty sweet.

Favorite gravel wheels?
If you like Campy and are looking for a wheelset around $1k that works with Ekar then Shamal Carbons are your wheelset. They run about $1,200 so just a little above your budget.

Fulcrum Rapid Red 5 - can be spec’d with N3W
I use them with 650x47 and like them a lot (HG 11 freewheel though) Got them < $400 last summer but not sure of availability now at that price |

I’d go with the HED Belgium Gs and find a hub set that’s compatible with your desired group set (sounds like Ekar) and let old spud lace em together for you. This said, I’m a Campy guy as well but have enjoyed GRX for my gravel bike.
Aero is less of a think until you start averaging over 20 mph which for me is challenging on gravel. I’d worry more about tires and pressure than aero for speed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
The Shamals have been mentioned, but I'm only seeing them taking up to 30s. Am I looking at the wrong ones?
