Oof delimma

Finally ready to restore my ct1 but I'm suffering from pre-restoration remorse. Bought it here after falling in love with its peeling paint rat rod road bike look.

It's been my favorite bad weather road bike. I don't have to wash it, it fits me to a t, is smooth like butter and descends like a demon. The old chorus record 10 group is the smoothest shifting campy in my lineup. Not as fast as newer groups, but has a great solid and quiet watch like feel, almost like closing an old Saab or rolls door.

Decided to have it redone, found a painter and agreed on a price and I have a couple of color schemes in mind.

Problem is I can't bring myself to tear it down and send it off. This is the perfect time of year to do it, but I keep stalling.

Can anyone here give me a swift kick in the butt to finally get it rolling?

Anyone else suffer this restoration remorse? I'd love to hear from someone who has and how it turned out.

Leave it as is, looks good to me.

P.s.

Groups don't make a bike fast; legs do.

I second keeping it as it is. You love it, rides great and you don’t worry about it. If you repainted it I think you’d be more concerned about damaging the paint. Now, you just ride it without worry.

And that is part of the delimma. Because it is titanium it can peel and peel without risk of damage, and I kinda like having a bike with some patina that I don't have to care how it looks, but then I think damnit would look good redone.

Thanks a lot :p

paint is overrated

At least wash the thing.

Why would you repaint a bad weather bike? Then you'll never ride it in the rain. Why not take off the paint and just leave the raw Ti?

I bought it with the expectation of restoring it, but then realized it makes a great rain bike as is.

Don't paint it until you get that saddle broken in. Oops! It looks like you got that done 10-15 years ago. :)

Think we need to know the possible color schemes to fully make an informed recommendation. :)

It's a Colnago. It deserves decent paint. You should be ashamed of yourself, letting it out out in public like that. (Just trying to help)

Go with your instinct.

John H. 11-10-2017 04:22 PM

Leave it!

I would leave it

1.) Paint doesn't hold that well to Ti
2.) Original style Colnago paint jobs are expensive to reproduce
3.) Patina looks cool on these bikes
4.) Most of the titanium Colnagos cracked- that is why there are so few out there. It would suck to put a bunch of $ into paint, and then it does crack.
5.) You have one that didn't crack- go out and enjoy it!
