I don't think I've ever posted here. Not having any luck posting a picture so here's some FB links.

On MLK Day last week with my ever constant running partner Lacey. I've put on some pounds since stopping all running and riding towards the end of last August. I just started walking again on Oct. 16.

Cause--- a fractured pelvis/sacrum bone. I fell of a Bosu Ball at home (flat side up in my bare feet ...very very stupid) last Feb. 1 and unknowingly at that time sustained a hairline fracture. I ran and rode (mostly ran) on it till almost the end of August thinking it was piriformis or sciatica. It made matters MUCH worse ! After I could not longer even walk down the block, I stubbornly finally got the MRI. I was totally housebound for 6 weeks , much of it on oxycodone and in excruciating pain -- can totally relate to what Tom Petty was going through with his hip fracture. Literally the worst time of my life.

Not back to running yet. Have a third MRI scheduled for March 1 and hope to be cleared for a return. Started some light biking late Dec. Trying to stay as flat as possible-- which is near impossible around here. Once or twice a week -- 45 to 75 minutes. At almost 65 (in June) my fitness level is at an all time low. It will come back but it's been a very frustrating time to say the least.

Dec. of '16, before the stupid accident at home, in the Santa Monica Mountains. In the red , front and center.

And the infamous Steve Potts 29er in the stand at Black Mountain Cycles. Sorry no "out in the wild " shots.

I would like to get a dedicated road bike to replace my '02 Litespped Classic. The thing feels like a death trap every time I infrequently get on it. Kish, Eriksen or Strong are the likely candidates. Unless the owner of the LBS decides to sell me his Moots Vamoots that he rides once a year. He keeps going back and forth on selling it.

Their early work was a little too new wave for my tastes, but when Sports came out in '83, I think they really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released this, Fore, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip to be Square", a song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the band itself.

I find it deeply satisfying to find someone that appreciates Huey as much as I do. We'll have to get together sometime and compare business cards.

Who Are You?

Hi all, new to the forum. Thought I'd give this a go...

* real name, if you like
-Zack (definitely not "Zach")
* where do you live?
- Los Angeles, CA
* explanation of your handle
-Lack of creativity?
* explanation of your avatar
-See above (I'll get around to an avatar as soon as I think of a good one...)
* age (general or specific)
- 25
* occupation
- Entrepreneur (Insurance and Financial Services)
* favorite bike
-So hard. Probably my current main whip, a 2004 Litespeed Vortex. Such a great bike. Fits me like a glove, accelerates like there's a hidden motor, descends like it's on rails. Only thing I'd change is tire clearance (25's are a squeeze).
* what's in your stable?
-Currently: '04 LS Vortex, '93 Bridgestone RB-1 (raced this bike all last season - steel is really real), '17 Raleigh Willard 2 (gravel/b-road), '08 Scott hybrid (grocery beater)
* fastest speed on a road bike?
-I hit 54 last year at a race, and I've hit 52 training.
* how many miles ON THE ROAD on a road bike last year?
-9850. Woulda gotten the 10k, but a gallbladder removal intervened. Still salty about that...
* picture of yourself or your ride?

* and, something fun.
- I was extremely (+150 lbs) overweight and unhealthy all through high school. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I'd eventually get seriously into bikes and fitness, and wind up competitively racing and on a team (Cat 4, but still!). Even though I've only been doing it for a few years, cycling has really changed my life, and I hope to pay that forward.

Seamus 03-20-2018 11:13 AM

Hello all - been lurking/lusting after discovering the classifieds, and have enjoyed the general discussion board for a bit, so figured time to introduce myself and maybe get in the mix:

RN: Seamus
Where do you live: NYC
Age: 36
Occupation: Freelancer (Film)
Favorite Bike(s): Bianchi Oltre XR4, Stelbel SB/03, No.22 Reactor
What's in your stable:
Emonda SLR
Cannondale Bad Boy
Vanmoof 5.7
Hoping to add a Ritchey Steel B/A for travel soon.
Fastest speed on a road bike? Where? When?: Erm, not sure? Was probably focusing on the road going downhill vs checking my Garmin
How many miles ON THE ROAD on a road bike last year?: 3,557
What is the biggest lie you've ever told: "It'll be a quick ride, not too long"
How did you find the paceline forum?: I was bumping around looking at used frames and stumbled upon the classifieds
and, something fun.: Former soccer player. After a good amount of years biking in the city for commuting/transit and always appreciating road cycling as a sport (the tactics, exotic locations, weird roadie niche culture; not the PED-tainted aspect), I've fallen hard for road biking myself. Have been at it just under 2 years.

Puritanically rim-brake inclined due to aesthetics and noise. Also, a bit of a weight-weenie.
