Wonder who made these ? At HED?

Interested in this as well... I didn't know they even had a carbon bike. I remember the aluminum TT frames they had but not these.

Maybe a QBP affiliation with them being local?

Robot870 02-01-2021 11:00 AM

I would assume if HED made them the quality would be fantastic....no?

And the geometry is wrong, somehow, because the top tube is claimed to be longer than the effective top tube even though there's a few degrees of upslope from the seat tube up to the top tube.

The seller also mentions on eBay that the tubing is "1.55mm" and stout. No planing for you!

That was deceptive listing practices. I Shouldn't have assumed...

AngryScientist 02-01-2021 11:57 AM

ha, who would buy a 1000 dollar bike on ebay without seeing even one picture. you literally would have no idea what you'd be getting.

Right. It was $75 with the tape installed. They had the tape professionally removed, to add lightness of course, and boosted the price to $650.

You could try making a case for that. I think it actually says " 475ctt" plus the tt length... but I had to look real close after you mentioned $75 obo. [emoji6]

Seller responded really quickly, but doesn’t have geo specs. Said he’d measure the head tube on the medium and that they were designed with traditional road racing frame geo. I found some backstory on another site where he’d listed one of the Heds. Ebay listings don’t include headset or seat clamp afaik, higher shipping charges.

Hello, up for auction is a rare limited edition 2006 NOS, unused HED R1C Carbon Compact Road Racing Bicycle Frameset. Designed by the late Steve Hed. Compact geometry, 46cm c-t seat tube, 50cm c-c top tube. It was sold as an extra small XS. Probably the best for someone 5'1"- 5'4" This sale deserves some background information. I had the opportunity to work with Steve for years, and wound up with some rare and odd items. Steve was one of a kind, and I can't imagine another man like him is even possible. That said, let's get to the specs. 1180 gram frame weight, high modulus carbon fiber, for standard 700c wheels. Standard English threaded bottom bracket, 31.8 seatpost diameter (includes original seatpost clamp), Carbon rear dropouts, replaceable alloy rear derailleur hanger. 130mm. standard rear spacing, original Cane Creek IS headset, uncut 300mm. steerer on the original carbon 1 1/8" threadless fork. At the time, the alloy steerer tube provided more weight over the front end versus carbon for stability, and made light carbon bikes more stable before they relaxed the head tube angles to achieve this. Fork weight with the headset and uncut steerer is 590g. With a cut steerer for this frame size and subtracting the headset weight, the fork is more like 375-400 grams. There was a lot of good feedback on this frame with the few made, but selling frames is a different than making wheels, and HED decided to focus on that. Please if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Low starting bid with no reserve. Just want it to go to a good home where someone appreciates it, and hopefully rides it! Buyer to pay $39.75 Fed Ex shipping with tracking and insurance, and must use Paypal. Thanks for looking!

Thanks - interesting stuff

Anyone thinking about this do your due diligence. I contacted Colnago to confirm authenticity by providing the serial number and the frame size of 55 traditional does not match what Colnago has communicated, which is 54s sloping. I decided to back-out. From what I can tell it looks good but I’m no expert on these matters. Cheer
