carbon gravel frame suggestions
 

Looking to get a carbon disc gravel frame but one which performs well on asphalt as the gravel lanes are not continuous nor directly accessible.

short list is LOOK 765RS Gravel, Pinnarello Crossista (not the Grevil) and Basso Palta.

Must have clearance for 38-40c, ability to run 2x. Any other models I should consider?

I have been more than happy with my Trek checkpoint sl. It really is a do it all bike. 80 road miles yesterday pulling through at 28-30mph. Rides like a road bike but with clearance for 45s. I have mine built up with SRAM Red 10 speed and some 30mmx28mm wide farsports wheels. Comes in at 15lbs with pedals and 25c tires. Some of these other gravel bikes are a little to gravel focused with strange geometry and frame design. More of a mountain bike than a road bike. The geometry on the checkpoint has an endurance fit but that can be sorted with a longer stem and a setback seat mast topper if needed. On gravel it really shines, the iso speed really does the trick. Worth a test ride.

New Trek Domane has stupid tire clearance.

Cervelo Aspero. Note its a bit long and low.

I would not consider any of the bikes on your list- too esoteric.

I would look at these:
Trek Checkpoint, Santa Cruz Stigmata, Ibis Hakka MX, and Cervelo Aspero.
All have good clearance and good geometry.
All are pretty straight forward bikes without quirks or weirdness.

I just picked up a pre-owned 2015 Stigmata CC based on similar requirements you noted. Got some initial rides on it this weekend and very pleased with the purchase.

There seem to be deals popping up on pre-owned similar to mine or NOS 2019 deals as the 2020 model is now out and one that folks are wanting to upgrade to. Revisions include but not limited to, ability to accommodate 42 mm tires or 650 option. Also added eyelets for "adventure/expedition" racks and revised the BB to threaded (was PF30). Saw a new 2020 model w/ the 650 wheel option in a shop yesterday and looks like they also made the tubes fatter.

If none of these 2020 model updates matter to you, the 2015-19 versions have great road feel with predictable handling off asphalt.

Havent ridden one yet but the Ibis Hakka gets great reviews as a road and all-arounder.

Thanks Hugo. funny, because I actually ride an Open.
But I wouldn't recommend it for most people. It is a great bike, but somewhat odd geometry- short-ish toptube, slack seat angle and short front center, also low stack.
Works best for aggressive position rider that wants to have a gravel bike that fits and rides like a road bike.
I like mine but I feel like it would be a better bike if the toptube was 1cm or so longer ;)

The new Look gravel bike looks great. Also, the new Santa Cruz Stigmata.

To the OP, isn’t the Basso Palta only 1x for the crankset?

They would fit me well because I have long legs and short torso.
I think they are super cool bikes but had an eye on a stigmata and successfully found a nice one.
