Carbon Clincher Conundrum

Hello everyone,

Looking into getting some carbon clinchers for my Moots Vamoots CR with Ultegra 6800/Da9000 mixed group.

The moots is currently running an Ultegra 6800 wheelset and it is the nicest wheelset i have owned since i got my first road bike in 2009. (My trek has a bontrager set and my Caad10 has mavic aksiums.)

I live in the Chicagoland area so the wheels would mostly see flats and occasionally rolling hills, no steep climbs or descending.

Looking to spend around 1,000 to 1,500 for new wheels.

So far for consideration are:

Competitive cyclist Mercury M5~900ish
Psimet (local wheels similar to boyd) ~1100 but could upgrade to white industries hubs for a bit more
Reynolds? Strike/assault and other models?
Campy bora50 ~ 1700 and would need a shimano freehub
Are there any other wheels in the price range that i am missing? What do you guys feel would be the bust buy???

I saw OldPotatoe had some carbon wheels recently.

Probably the way to go.

890 USD with DT240 hubs and bladed spokes. https://www.lightbicycle.com/U-shape...ompatible.html

I was carbon curious too. I found a pair of Reynolds Assaults for a decent price on eBay. I was a bit apprehensive buying used, but so far they have been good. They use KT hubs. The hubs are smooth. Nice wheel set without breaking the bank.
In this case it was money well spent.

ProBike has some good prices on Bora (which you can get in Shimano).

Bora One and done.

This would be an amazing deal if they weren't in China! I'd be afraid of damage in shipping, customs and the amount of time it would take to get here.

The Reynolds stuff is all good. Or, find a lightly used set of ENVE's here or on eBay.

Good luck!

ProBikes prices look good. Have you ordered from them? How long did it take to get them?

This goes up price wise, $900 if you choose DT240 hubs.

Carbon and tubulars!

Thinking about this too. Nashbar has 3T Mercurio tubs for ~$750 and their return policy is excellent. They also have DA C50 tubs that get down to ~$1150 depending on the sale du jour..

What's the line on Dura Ace prebuilt wheels, don't see them mentioned much here.

I have them and love them. I have the 7850's which also work tubeless. You can usually get them for 750ish.

Boyd Cycling, the 28mm carbon clinchers.
I'm REALLY happy with mine.
