thule hitch rack locking pin thread size?
good morning paceline.
i've got an upcoming trip that i need to carry a few pals bikes. they are all from the city, so none of them have cars of course. my nice bike will ride happily on the roof, but theirs will ride on this thing that i just got for cheap money off of ebay. a quick search shows that thule's locking hitch pin is, the snug tite, is sixty bucks! that's more than i paid for the rack, and of course, will not be doing that! the rack didnt come with a threaded bolt or anything, so before i head to Home Depot tonight, anyone know what size thread the anti sway bolt is ? metric probably right? https://images.craigslist.org/00K0K_...QV_600x450.jpg |

Nick,
I spent (less than) that on it -- Not using it -- let me know if you want to borrow (or borrow my T2 if you only have two bikes) BUT, i don't know what size. I think it's pretty common, though: https://www.etrailer.com/Accessories.../853-5917.html |

i probably should have asked around first, but this popped up on craigslist and i met the guy in fairlawn last night and bought it. should work fine for the few occasions i need to carry friends bikes, or maybe eventually kids bikes. i'm just going to buy a bolt from the hardware store, just need to know the thread size. |

M12 x 1.75 threaded bolt
|
I'm not so sure. It seems like it's the design.
My pin lock is pretty much just a threaded bolt that has an extension on the end that a locked cover slides over preventing getting a wrench on one end. This Thule job looks like the bolt threads inside of the hitch leaving no threads exposed with the lock rest jutting out the side. I doubt the threading is uncommon, but the threaded portion on the head end only with the other end the lock rest seems very specific. At $18 plus $6 plus shipping it could be worse. |
