What to use to clear coat a carbon seat post?
 

I purchased a carbon post that needed a bit of work. Did a light sanding to remove some scratched up graphics...now, what can I use as a clear coat? Since it will be clamped, it needs to be hard and tough without sticking and forming a "permapost". also...I'd like it to come in a rattle can if possible.

Pre or post catalyzed Acrylic Lacquer ?

Ultimately heat cured 2 part urethane.

I'd probably fit it to the height it will be used at and mark, and just clear from there up with something solvent resistant.


I have a whole bike stripped carbon and just 303 UV protectant spray after cleaning a few times a year, including seat post. It looks like a nice sheen/semi gloss when treated. I figured I'd do that until it got painted... It is never getting painted....

I'n not a paint guy so I'll probably take the "just the part that shows" approach.

Polyurethane.

Poly unless catalyzed will be soft and not even denatured alcohol resistant if that matters. It would to me.

The good part is you can wipe it off and redo it as needed.

I’ve rejuvenated a good bit of carbon and my approach is to wet sand the part up to 800, spray two coats of Duplicolor clear, then wet sand at 1500 and compound. It will shine like new. YMMV.
