I appreciate your diligent research. Very edifying :) I was there in the 90's, though. Perhaps no one from that era was as athletically gifted as Robinson. Yet, he got schooled by Hakeem: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q...tail&FORM=VIRE
Hakeem had OT (always underrated) the volatile Vernon Maxwell and Kenny Smith.

I think Hakeem was sounder fundamentally than the Admiral.

The series where Hakeem depantsed MVP Robinson is pretty much all most people remember about those two.

But memories are faulty, which is why we have objective measurement tools.

Head to head, they are pretty much even over their careers, with Robinson having more wins (30-12) and better efficiency while Hakeem has 2 more PPG on 6 more shots.

In terms of career stats, Hakeem has better career totals which mostly come out in the wash if you normalize for the fact that he played about 250 more games.

They are both all-timers.

I was there too. And one series does not a career make.

Both were incredible players.

LOL! My comment on Facebook last night was "Someone needs to remind Marcus Smart that Taking One For The Team means taking ONE...not a half dozen. But he's the guy I want on my side in a bar fight."

Smart's flop at the end of the game was just embarrassing.

I haven't looked at the link you offered yet, but my (seemingly-)vivid recollection of the mid-1990s Playoffs was that David Robinson got soundly beaten by Hakeem

...it was Shaquile O'Neil who got completely schooled by Hakeem.

I’ll take Charles Oakley, thank you very much.

I'd like a guy who's not a 31 percent career three point shooter.

He's a poor man's version of Patrick Beverley, and not as good a perimeter defender.

Back in my playground days, an “acoustic picker” meant “calling out the screen.” 😉

Anyone willing to admit that they were wrong on their assessment of Marcus Smart - 16 points, 6 assists, 3 steals and a huge block.

Nah. Beverley is better. 2 of 10 from 3. He hits a couple more of those and the hero block isn't necessary. Game was close in part because he shot horribly from range.

He's got at least four more games to flop around. Can't wait for the fake tough guy-off with Jimmy Butler.

Granted, I'm a Celtics fan, but I 100% disagree with this, and I'd bet most NBA GMs would disagree with you too.

He's a streaky shooter, and he flops on occasional, but not sure what else you can complain about.

Beverly isn't exactly an offensive threat either... 41% career FG%.

But he isn't getting paid to shoot - That is what Walker, Tatum, Brown and Hayward are supposed to do - If they get 12 a nite from Smart they will be more than happy.

Everyone is getting paid to shoot at this level. One guy you don’t have to guard means the defense gets a lot more flexibility on schemes and switches.

But I think that applies to both PatBev, whom I will never forgive for breaking Westbrook’s knee, and Smart who is far too good of a defender to be engaging in this fake tough guy BS.
