Your Riding Videos Go Here

We've got a thread for photos so how about one for videos? I have to believe that there are others besides Weisen and myself who are stitching together videos from our rides.

I'm curious to see what sort of roads you're riding on and the traffic you're contending with. Please share.

I use a GoPro Hero 2 that I picked up a few years ago. I've tried every mount imaginable from helmet to chest to bar and have settled on a K-Edge bar mount. It works best on my road bike.

I typically keep my camera rolling for the entire ride and process my videos with iMovie. I'll make mental notes along the way of scenes that I think may work well in the final cut. It's all about the editing in the end.

Background music is a nice thing in my opinion and I get most of mine through a couple of sites that allow you to use their music without fear of copyright infringement. All they ask is that you give them credit in the information area of the video. Here are a couple of sites...here and here.

My most recent video is from a ride this past Wednesday. There was a strong south wind and I knew my one and only Strava KOM was in jeopardy of being captured by someone else. I went out and gave it all I had while shaving 2 seconds off my previous best. It held up to a challenge later in the day from a group of 5 so I was pleased.

Here's the video.

I hope others will contribute to this thread and give us all a better look at what you're experiencing on your rides.

Thanks!

i don't often film my rides, but when i do, i film descents. well, so far only 2 descents, and one featuring hay-eaters. no music, just wind and some "woohoo!"-ing.

riding with horsies in glacier national park

descent in northwest NY-holding a canon g12

eastward descent on kancamagus-holding an iphone

yes, i know 1-handing it just under 50mph going downhill is ridiculously dumb, but alas...for science!

Here's one from a few years ago descending Monte Baldo near Verona. We hit 60 on the last ramp that was 19%.

Nice, but get a handlebar mount of some sort. I use a gorillapod with a conventional camera. I did buy a Sony video cam on Black Friday and need to start using it.

I find the handlebar mounts are a must vs holding something in your hand and trying to record video. Here's a bit of an embarrassing clip I took several years ago when I was first beginning to experiment with capturing ride video. This one involved holding my phone in my mouth while shifting gears.

It didn't work so well.

I can't seem to escape the wind this spring. Yesterday was another day of battling strong winds but I'm sure I'm a better rider for it...maybe just a little more tired.

For some odd reason I typically do this route in the reverse from how I rode it in the video last Tuesday. I enjoy how a change like that can give a different perspective or feel to a ride.

What camera are you using Kevin? It looks very smooth.

onekgguy 04-21-2015 06:25 PM

Lucasp...I use a GoPro Hero 2 with a bar mount. The smoothness is mostly attributable to my iMovie software and its smoothing ability.

Thanks!

Not me

Let's be clear, this video is not me. It's someone I know who knows how to race in the pro class. I'm old, I kinda know how to edit and had a camera. So we teamed up.

Crit - Rain - I show what one full lap looked likes and then, as best I can, what is' like to race and this dude knows how to race . . . I think it came out OK. Music is fun, too. He got top 5. Here are some elements: Mark McCormack, gapping the field, dudes with gels under their bibs in skin suits and no where to be seen when it counts, rain, corners, dudes moving up 5 spaces in the last 100m . . . you get the drill.

Give it a watch

That's the camera I have, but my videos are typically a little rougher. Darn those Chicago roads.

Here's a short time lapse I made from the first third of Almanzo 100 last year.
A little hard to see here, but at :25 there were three horses ran along with our group.
