I know some of you must be on the Rivendell email list. They sent out an email tonight asking for “help”.

Ditto. Hopefully it works for 'em. I was into them a few years back and kinda moved on. But I'd be happily give them $10

Oh boy. Grant needs to spend some time with an accountant. I'm sure there are plenty of cyclist accountants who would help out. Generally people with great business ideas don't have great business acumen. That's not a criticism.

...im rooting for them , they turned me on to nitto, lugs, and grandpas pine tar soap....but too many wacky frames the past few years. they need to go back to quickbeam, ramboullet , atlantis etc type stuff...
also website component selection has really deteriorated in the past few years

I helped. But I also have to say I'll never use the $20 I bought. I like them and their stuff. His Bridgestone catalogs are golden. Another thing, that area, Walnut Creek, that whole area isn't cheap to live. And they have a bunch of employees(14). I bet the rent is high too. If you're only doing 400-ish frames a year maybe, that just doesn't work.

I "bought in". Hope they make it. I have been a fan of Bridgestone and enjoyed reading the catalogs. No, I hadn't bought from them but thought the filled a need for sensible products. Good Luck, Grant.

Grant is a total kook and while I don’t agree with a lot of his philosophy the guy has done a ton to get people on bikes. Not everyone is a racer and he realized this early on and created the market.

Of course you can purchase a $10.00 credit and not use it. At some point you may find something that you can use.

Why not place an order if they have something you want?
- Gives them cash and moves stock out of their warehouse.

They did this differently a few years ago by asking people to place orders before year's end so they could decrease stock and increase cash flow. I did it then and I will probably do it now if they have something I want. I am less likely to purchase the credit because it does not make it clear what people want (and what they do not). I also believe that the frames have lost their way. Bring back the Rambouillet. He is a nice guy. He does offer stuff that others do not. But, it is not our job to save his business.

He needs to change the business to offer what people want. How is it that Rivendell is having cash problems but Velo Orange is doing well?

If you like expensive fancy comfortable practical bicycles with racks and bells and stuff then you you owe Riv.

I hope they get their **** sorted out.

I've never bought anything from them, and only know of them from what I've read here. That's enough. In for $10.

I'm sure Grant has to meet minimum quantities for orders. I'm sure he has more ideas of what products would be good for cyclists than he can realistically afford to order in the minimum quantities required. I'll bet he ends up over-ordering while hoping for the best just so he doesn't fail to offer "good stuff" to cyclists. I've met him a few times and he's a really good guy.

Oh yeah, I bought an MB-3 in 1989, and an Allrounder, Rambouillet, and Romulus since then. I still have the Rambo and that or my Strada Bianca will probably be my LAST BIKES.
