New Wheels - From Mr OldPotatoe

Getting excited - OldPotatoe is building up a new set of wheels for my Moots.

Rim Brake
HED Belgium R Rims
Bitex Hubs

These will replace DT R460 with Shimano Hubs

Can't Wait!

Nice.

Do we know, what differentiates these new Belgium R rim brake rims from the former Belgium+ rims?

Nice, I LOVE the last set he built me.

I think it's the same rim as the old Belgium+, but once they introduced the 30mm wide Belgium G, calling the 25mm rim "+" would have been a bit confusing.

Nothing like a nice hand built wheelset!

My wife recently spent way too much time corresponding back & forth with HED customer support trying to find the answer to that question, and eventually they admitted that the width and depth of the center channel on the R was different from the +

I forget if it's wider/deeper, or narrower/shallower, or some other combination of those variables, but it's definitely a different profile internally.

I have been spoiled by Old Potatoe for the past few years. The previous wheels were also built by him. Been a while since I have not been tooling around on spud built wheels.

Ha ha, me too. The 1st set he built for me, years back, my wife is on because they are Campy freehub wheels and she much prefers Campy Ergo over Shimano STI or Sram. They are still true! I have the latest one on my new aluminum Zukas - also perfect of course!

My problem now is not the wheels, but I fell in the middle of the night 2.5 weeks ago and broke 6 ribs - 2 of the 6 were broken in 2 places for a total of 8 fractures. With a small left, apical pneumothorax and left lower lobe lung atelectasis, it will be a while before I can ride these wheels again. However, I am sure they will be up to it when I am again!

I got the wheels a week or so back but was out and unable to ride. I rode for about an hour yesterday. They are wonderful! Thanks Old Potato!

You will be happy with the new wheels! Spending a little more money on the Hed rims and saving a tad with the Bitex hubs was a good plan. Buying hand built wheels is a good decision.
