Exactly what I thought when I saw their advert |
Bonkers price, but a delicious bike - I can't do it (he doesn't seem keen on splitting or sending to Australia; and I'd only want the frameset, which will still be too expensive), so it has to be shared:

Yup! This is a super nice bike that is likely worth about $2,000 if they can find the right buyer. Lots of other nice and severely overpriced bikes listed by the same person. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
i think as we get deeper into this economic downturn we will start to see some interesting stuff come out of the woodwork, initially at highly optimistic pricing. lots of people take comfort in thinking that gem that have in the rafters is worth a mint, and will be disappointed to find out that the market is significantly less "fat" than they think. not just bike stuff either.

Ellis Cycles road bike: handbuilt, lugged steel w/Di2 electronic shifting; 57cm

Ellis Cycles road bike: handbuilt, lugged steel w/Di2 electronic shifting; 57cm
Note:Seller has offered to me for $3000 I'm selling my custom-built, handmade, lugged steel Ellis Cycles road bike. It is just absolutely a thing of beauty, both to look at and to ride. I'm only selling it to fund a new Ellis Strada Fango combination gravel/road frame. Here's your chance at owning and riding a fine piece of craftsmanship at a fraction of the cost of a new frame. Specs: Full Ultegra Di2 drivetrain and brakes. Frame is designed around the Di2 system, with internally-routed cables and an integrated battery mount. Ultegra hubs w Mavic Open Pro rims. Compact front chainrings (50/34) with 10-speed 11-28 rear cassette. 172.5 mm cranks. Chris King headset. Originally built in 2008 (Ellis Cycles #11). Di2 upgrade and new paint job in 2014. Comes with an extra wheelset (Novatec hubs and Maddux rims) and a 2 sets of like-new Conti 25c Gatorskin tires. The bike has been meticulously cared for and never crashed. There are *very* minor cosmetic issues as you'd find on any bike. I am running 28c tires, but there is possibly room for 30c, depending on the actual width. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Ellis-Cycle...m/223798182803 To purchase this bike new today would be $3,500 for the frame and fork only, then at least another $2,500 for the Di2 system and components. Price is firm as described. I am willing to entertain offers that don't include the Di2 components (shifters and derailleurs), but not as a frameset only. Saddle and pedals not included. Free shipping via Bikeflights to anywhere in the continental US. Dave Wages has won numerous awards for his frames over the years. Read about him and Ellis Cycles here: https://www.elliscycles.com |
Palo Alto vintage bike, ~60cm: $350 in San Jose area
https://images.craigslist.org/00K0K_...Ma_600x450.jpg https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/bik...112358333.html "Vintage 1984 Palo Alto Bicycles lugged road bike with lots of character. Quality made frameset with Italian Columbus tubing and Columbus decals. Shimano 600 component group set (engraved derailleurs, cranks, shifters, brakes, brake levers), and Mavic MA2 700c clincher rims. (See all pictures for more detail). Ignore 'frame size' info, does not allow me to change. Very good condition road bike with smooth ride quality, no dents, clean paint (few scratches), clean logos, and straight. The paint has a few scratches from regular use, but clean overall. “Burn orange” of color (See Pictures). The bike looks very good ready to ride. Price is $350.00 as is, not warranty. See pictures as description." ** Bad description and bad measurements, but I think someone here was looking for a 60cm "Palo Alto" frameset or bike. If I haven't totally mis-remembered that, here's a lead. |
