Creak/clunk when putting full pressure on the pedals...
This was a throw-together build--used chain, used cluster of unknown mileage. Quick link, Campy Centaur 10.
Stand on the pedals you get a distinct sound like metal being stretched--somewhere between a creak and a clunk. No obvious play in crank, pedals are fairly new and seem OK. I'm leaning towards chain and/or quicklink. THoughts? |
my spokes were rubbing last time i had this happen.

Remove pedals and try another pair. If that's not it, remove chainrings and grease and replace bolts. If that's not it, remove crank and make sure greased and seated well. If that's not it, remove bottom bracket and reinstall assuming everything is faced and chased well enough. If that's not it install a new BB (maybe) Sq taper I assume? If that's not it check everything on your stem/bar/HS situation. If that's not it, wear earbuds and turn up the volume or peruse the Classified for a new bike :p |

Yeah that's by no means a comprehensive list and I would probably rule out cockpit/front wheel before jumping into the drivetrain...
Never does it sitting down? Have fun |
Front quick release.

Anyway. |
My first guess is a loose bb cup.

My brain freeze moment was I got mixed up as to what cogset I was testing with, and sold the good one on eBay by accident. Whoops... Haven't had a chance to look at it yet--went for a ride on a working bike first thing and have been working on the honeydew list since. |

My money is on the cassette hub - either a cassette hub with too much play, a bad pawl mechanism, or a cassette lockring that's not tight.

The suspense is overwhelming :p
