Those are Hawt!!! Very nice work.

The welds on these things are stunning -- well, the whole aesthetic is stunning -- minimal, but progressive.

I've never seen that 'faded' anodization before -- was that something you guys developed?

bambam 03-02-2012 08:49 AM

Wow!

Beautiful looking bikes.

vav 03-02-2012 08:52 AM

Incredible!! Just acquired a Ti frame (not as nice) and I have been scratching my head over the components, wheels and the like and I will be building it inspired in these bikes.
Thanks for posting
PS: My 1st Ti frame BTW. I've been lurking here, CL and EBAY for the right price and size. Can't wait to start building.

Beautiful craftsmanship. Wonderful job.

Photo critique: I think your set-up would work fine if you change to a white or light gray seamless back drop. Your current set-up doesn't provide enough light. On my monitor, at least, in many of the shots it is very difficult to see the bikes. Either add more light sources (strobes, flashes, hot lamps, whatever,...) or change the back drop to a lighter color.

Bikes are way coool though.

tuscanyswe 03-02-2012 09:37 AM

Good looking bikes all of them but the last one with a regular headtube stands out visually. For me thats just so much better looking. Infact it looks amazing.

Great work! Who knows, some day!

+1 the dark background makes it look like you are hiding the details.

54ny77 03-02-2012 10:31 AM

Oh my. Want.

That's really nice. Really nice.

Thanks for the feedback. I will be shooting a Ti MTB later today and will use the "Platinum" backdrop per your suggestions. I'll post it here later.

DRZRM 03-02-2012 10:56 AM

Tyler,

Those really are as nice looking as any bikes being made right now. I have three IFs (coupled steel SS MTB for travel, SSR roadbike, and a ti Planet X) you were likely to have welded and craftsmanship and ride quality as is good as anything I've been on. Next frame I have built I'll definitely be looking to you guys. Looking forward to riding with you in April, I'll have to ride by the shop and introduce myself, I'm only a few postal codes away.

You should move/copy this to the Showcase thread so there will be a brand specific place to post Firefly pics without having to dig through all the individual frame pics to track it down.

Keith A 03-02-2012 10:57 AM

Tyler -- You guys are doing some great work and we are happy that you are sharing your work with us. Keep 'em coming.

BTW, I moved this into "The Showcase" to highlight your work more appropriately.

nahtnoj 03-02-2012 10:57 AM

All the haters from last year at this time when Firefly was just getting started are appropriately silent right now.

I can't think of another builder who put out this much quality, well designed work so quickly.

Years ago some of the Fat Ti's and One of Titanium frames were anodized in crazy tie-dye fades. Fades have been big in the titanium jewelry industry and in a way are easier than trying to make a solid area of pure color.

Hello Firefly guys --

I spend more time than I care to admit admiring your work on your website and on VSalon. Thanks for spending the time to update those sites. Bike geeks like yours truly are paying attention and look forward to your latest designs. Please continue to post here.

Your bikes really have a distinctive and beautiful style -- clearly purpose-built but classic and very sophisticated. You are next on my list.

+1 to this. really great to see a bike with full fenders like that, definitely not a garage queen. keep up the good work, very impressive.

Jack Brunk 03-02-2012 12:23 PM

My turn

in the que is coming up quickly. Can't wait.

Great work!

MattTuck 03-02-2012 02:15 PM

Those are some LOOOOOONG seat posts.

Climb01742 03-02-2012 02:18 PM

every detail is amazing on your bikes, tyler. thanks for posting. and just one man's vote...but i like your darker, moodier photographs. to my eye they're more distinctive and evocative...part of your 'brand' personality. the brighter, more well-lit shots feel too 'average' for your brand. just my .02.

54ny77 03-02-2012 02:22 PM

Better yet--do both!

The slightly darker photos look great on a big monitor. On my droid phone, not so much.

old_fat_and_slow 03-02-2012 05:43 PM

The lighter background certainly makes the bikes pop from the background and easier to see, but I must admit the dark background looks edgier. Maybe, something in between and maybe try some modified angles on the strobes or crank up the power a bit, or add an extra strobe or two.

Part of the fun of photography is figuring out the "best" way, similar to building a frame. Enjoy the journey, and BTW, your frames look awesome.

rnhood 03-02-2012 05:54 PM

I like the lighter backgrounds, although the bikes are beautiful in both. Perhaps something in between would be the ticket. That 29'er is especially nice.

Firefly #000

This is FF000, the first bike we made. (Photo circa one year ago)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7049/6...23c729cd_b.jpg

Last year we completed it the on March 4th, and the very next day our very own Kevin Wolfson (our lead frame designer) started the 5-day, Tim Johnson's Ride On Washington from Boston to DC.

We're a little more prepared this year and have it refinished and ready to go two weeks before this year's Ride On Washington.

This is a pic of Kevin polishing it in his fancy shirt:

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7067/6...fedd91fb_b.jpg

The ride raises money for Bikes Belong.

This is the bike refinished. (Photo circa about half an hour ago... platinum backdrop)

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7058/6...e0ca8802_b.jpg

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7043/6...114c7907_b.jpg

Like last year, we're donating a frameset to the ride's raffle. Every $50 donated goes straight to Bikes Belong and gives you a chance to win a custom Firefly, like this one.

Repeat: Each $50 donation gives you 1 chance to win a Firefly custom titanium frame... just for you. (i.e. $100 gets you 2 chances)

For anyone interested, you can donate here: https://www.pledgereg.com/27064.

Cheers!

Tyler

Holy hot potatoes. Beautiful work just beautiful.

rnhood 03-02-2012 08:00 PM

Now if you could only make an aero road frame...aka Venge.

Tyler,

You know I love you to death man and I have so much love for you as well as your abilities.

I am so glad you, Kevin, and Jamie have done so well, worked so hard, and continue to do so.

I sure hope it doesn't come out patronizing, but I am very proud of what you three have done! I truly hope you all continue to be successful and come up with crazy new ideas.

Mad love man

Dave
