so very tempting... has anyone run 650b in this frame?

Imaking20 02-03-2021 02:44 PM

I wouldn't advise it. 32c tire limitation on 700c (which is great for a road bike, don't get me wrong) means I'd be surprised if you can even fit a 650*42. Even if you can, that handling is going to be FAAAAAST. Like ~50mm of trail. My gravel "race bike" (Aspero) on the quickest 650b setup with 48mm tires is 56mm trail and designed to be run at 61mm trail. And that 61mm trail on 48mm tires feels almost as sharp as my Tarmac.

In short, I'd say if you're after a 650b setup, this isn't the bike you're looking for.

I PSA'ed it a couple of months ago when it was first listed, I don't think the seller is on here.

Agreed, great bike, but not the best option for 650b. Horizontal tire clearance limited.

At first glance I thought it was some sort of machined Campagnolo post not unlike those on a few early-80s Bianchis. The listing sheds some light, describing it as a Tony Rominger model for Colnago by Campagnolo. Looks like it's circular and uses a thick shim, if that's not a contradiction in terms, to bring the seat tube down to perhaps 18mm i. d.

The former Hour Record holder may have thought seat posts should be no larger in diameter than front track tubulars at the time.

Kinda cool in itself. Almost adds to the appeal!

That is mad tempting! Anyone here with experience riding Ti concourse, particularly since the tubes don't look oversized? Worried about flex...

I had a 2006 ti Legend w/ ti stays and F2 fork and had no issues with stiffness @150#. Unless you are heavy or an absolute masher I doubt you'd find this noodly.

Beautiful bike but while bulletproof, Mavic Ksyriums were a bit harsh for my taste.

That C50 would fit me. Glad I already have one. :)

That seatpost is just weird.

And with regard to the Mavics...yes, they are bulletproof, but they are noisy. And in my experience, they are slower than Campy Eurus wheels on the same bike with the same tires... And the Eurus are both bulletproof and quiet!

Nice Idol in my town. Please note the seller states “a couple of bent spokes”, and frame size of 56cm, although that’s not how DeRosa sized them. Can facilitate if interested.
