i know nothing about this brand, but -

what is going on with that drive said chainstay?

and is that a seatmast? did someone cut it with a chainsaw?

electric/etap only?

i would sure want to know more about that frame before paying near the asking price, but i guess thats the benefit of a local deal?

Looks like foam padding in the seat tube to me. Chainstay, not sure. Looks like it's been wrapped with something.

vqdriver 01-21-2019 03:32 PM

dunno what's in that seat tube

looks like internal routing for gears and brakes

what do you see on the chainstay? the way the carbon is finished, it just looks like lighting glare to me

Appleman works with in nude, raw carbon. It gives it a very industrial look, which I happen to really like.

Seller seems like a nice guy. He said it was a level top tube and takes a tapered fork ...

Looks like a foam plug in the top of the seatmast. Also looks like internal routing. Can't tell if it's cable or electronic, bu the DS CS end near the dropout is formed as an exit point. Builder's webpage is here. He's a contributor ATH.

I spoke with him at nahbs in Hartford. Very intelligent guy who bills a limited number of frames while working full time in mechanical engineering if I remember correctly.

If money was no object, he'd be my top choice for a caliper road bike or disc cx race bike.

Buildsheet's included in the ad. Top tube slopes 4.6 degrees (assuming that's the correct buildsheet).

According to the CL ad it looks as though I'm fairly close to the seller so could probably facilitate for anyone interested.

I am sure its a nice bike and I will be that guy, but that looks like a poorly finished made at home carbon bike. I just don't see what makes it $3200 used.... For that price I have seen crumptons and argonauts and other applemans which imo of course look a million times better and I bet ride as nice

I like it

I like it- I have been close to pulling the trigger on one a couple times- Just couldn't see my way to asking price at the moment.
I like the down and dirty industrial look- They don't look poorly made up close- Just purpose built. And he doesn't paint them- he wants you to see the wraps and additional supports/protection.

Yeah, I cant tell what is going on with the drive side chain stay in front of the hanger.

Someone who is more familiar with what raw, unfinished carbon looks like will have to clue me in: do they all look like this pre-finish and paint? Or is he doing something else here?

I have a hard time thinking of paying finished carbon price for unfinished carbon, but I'm also a luddite so what do I know?!

purpose build and $6000 a frame is just a weird concept to me

John H. 01-21-2019 08:43 PM

6k

That is why I bought an Open instead. A $6000 bike would need to provide me with something that I could not get in a stock bike.
Never say never- But Open won out for me over a custom gravel bike.
