Dating Legend Ti - help!

4 Attachment(s)
Hey folks - just finishing build of an (early 90s?) Legend Ti. Would love to know what year it was made. Catologs seem to only get me so far.

Serial: CTI 51 3136
F1 fork with 1"steerer
Got it with a Serotta Ti quill stem 90 degree (wish it were coventional rise, but ok)
Derailleur braze ons on head tube (got an issue with these I'll make a separate post for, but will describe below)
Top tube labeled Legend Ti, not just Ti
What I think is called "sizzler" paint scheme, Pearl white and color changing frost blue (that's what it looks like to me)

can't seem to post pics, sorry.

Dang

I thought our buddy had a new GF!

There is a sticky for decoding serial numbers and a section with catalogs

They should help

If you look in the catalogs to see when F1 was dropped that would give you an idea of how new the bike could be. Also search our archives for "Legend" "Legend ti" etc. for old posts where members have listed known dates with serial numbers. Maybe one of the ex-Serotta builders could make an educated guess especially if you post photos showing dropouts and other details.

Rear Dropout Style

The style of rear dropouts will help you date your frame too. The earliest Ti Serottas did not have the 3D dropouts - up to the late 90's. The earliest Ti 3D dropouts (around the year 2000) had very small holes in the sections that join to the seat stays and chain stays, the later ones (around 2001? and later) have very large holes in those areas.

My 99 concours has 3d dropouts and f1 forks were around mid to late 90's as far as I remember. I also believe that cti was the concours, but I could be wrong. Does the sticker for the tubing say it's c3s or c4s ti?

F1 was available through 2002 I think. DT shifter bosses or HT stops? They went to HT stops in 1997 I think.

If only I could get my pics to upload ...
I can find where the F1 began in the catalogs but not where they cut it off.

HT stops.
Thought that transition was later?

C4s ti

I had a 2001 Legend with 3D rear dropouts, head tube cable stops and a 1" threadless F1 Ti (dropouts) fork.

I'd say the holes in the dropouts are small - you MIGHT be able to slip a coat hanger or a chain rivet through there - maybe two millimeters?

Does anyone know when they stopped supplying the threaded forks ? Mine is threaded. Looks from the catalogs that it was about 2002-3? But if a threaded fork was always an option, then that doesn't help to date it.
