I would not be surprised in Bend, we have them here in Grants Pass, killing lots of ponderosa pines and some firs on my property, need to do another removal session.

The frigid cold got lifted, we have a respite before the rain comes tonight. Glad that I got two rides in Sat/Sun on my favorite bike. Of all the bikes that I have, I love this the most.

Holy crap, it was 5 degrees out today! Misty, drizzly and phreaking warm after two weeks of record-breaking cold. Photo below is more properly after my ride, not during. This is the precarious walk to my shed where I keep my bikes.

https://i.imgur.com/QTFhyui.jpg

The bike is now wet and crusty with salt and sand. Lotta guys wouldn't go out on a day/night like this, but I don't buy'em to keep'em pristine so they hold their value. On the contrary, their value to me is in how many soul-stirring days on the road I get out of them.

A day with sloppy weather that you miss a ride because you don't want to "damage" your bike is a day without a ride that you can never get back. Though I suppose you could have a dedicated bike for nasty weather, but I'm doing well enough having convinced my wife of the need for the three bikes I've already got. Trying to squeeze a fourth into that shed would be pushing my luck!

Hilltopperny 01-11-2018 11:58 AM

After arctic temperatures over the past couple weeks we finally got some weather in the mid 40's. Felt good to get out and ride this one off of the trainer. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1763852a56.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...828db751dd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...1b9127fea9.jpg

Cape Cod Airfield in Marston Mills, between Sandwich and Hyannis.

Three miles from my house by road, 2 miles by some of the best single track in the north east!

Mzilliox 01-11-2018 01:40 PM

Got out for a windy, blustery kind of ride today.

Photos and a video from several recent gravel rides on Antelope Island (near SLC, UT)

Here's some GoPro footage Kind of an eerie sound track but I think it works for the scenery and lighting. Includes a few encounters with some Bison too. Rear facing camera first half then mounted to my stem the last half. I took my new Gravel sled out to the island just after the first snow. Surprisingly, I had ZERO traction issues with the WTB Byway tires. It was a wonderful evening of riding...just blissful. The Cycling Gods were smiling.

is that an electric fence? or are horses just generally docile enough to simply stay in their areas without heavy duty fences? (i'm such a city boy, i know just about zero about farm animals...)

It's not an electric fence - it's easy to see if one is electric because they have an insulator between the post and the wire, typically plastic though ceramic was used in the past. Horses are pretty good about not going through or over a fence but they do at times. And that's actually a heavy duty fence for horses IMO....we ran 3 strands of wire in our pasture and that was good enough.

Nice pics and video. You're braver than I would have been around the buffalo...I'd have given them a bit wider berth.

weisan 01-15-2018 06:57 AM

Thank you choke pal. I wouldn't know how to answer angry pal, I am a city boy myself, just lucky to be living at a place where in just 5 miles or less put me in quiet rural roads.

Come on down and visit me angry pal. I will rebuild the MXL back up just for you. It's the smallest bike I got. :D

today

Everybody is freakin' out because of incremental weather moving in tonight, schools and offices are sending out advanced notices of closure for tomorrow. Glad I rode three days in a row.
