The bicycle vacation in the Bordeaux region France that my wife and I took in 1993--incredible sights, great people, fantastic food--rode about 50-60 miles a day--total fun and relaxation. Still the best vacation ever!

* and, something fun: I took our Cubs Scout Pack on a bike ride around one of our local lakes (Burke Lake)...approx 4.5 miles. We had a dieverse range of kids...ages ranged 7-11 years old. We started with a quick safety check (bikes, helmets) and a chat about "riding etiquette". The kids and their parents absolutely loved the ride!

* where do you live? Havana, Florida. 10 miles south of the Georgia border, 14 miles north of Tallahassee (capital of Florida), 2 hours west of Jacksonville, 2 hours east of Panama City. Live in the country on 20 acres (10 are for sale), and can be at the beach in 1 hour. We've got the 4 seasons (it's suppose to be 27 degrees on Thursday), but not as severe (no snow). Cycling paradise.
* explanation of your handle: RA capital R, capital A. Back in the 80's, I swam with a guy on a Master's team who kept calling me Rita. After 100 times asking him to please call me Ritaann, he said "From now on, it's RA!" It stuck.

Well, I love geography- visiting places, getting a sense of the landscape, people, etc. Bikes are the best way to see a place- fast enough to cover alot of territory, but not so fast as to miss the details. Also, the bikes themselves, their aesthetics, and the subtle differences between them.

* what's in your stable? Serotta CSI, Riv Road, Riv A/R, Merlin XLM, Masi 3V fixed gear, Colnago Super, a Baylis custom on order, and a hopefully a Sach's in my future! I have a few others as well but those above are the high points.
* fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 38mph flat out on Desire (as in Streetcar Named..) Street when I got lost in the projects in New Orleans.

* favorite bike: a tough one....I don't have it anymore but I think it must be the Roll Fast stingray that my Dad put together for me when I was about 8 years old. He put drop bars on it and set it up as a 3 spd. It had my name on the chainguard in chrome lettering and was British Racing Green. It was my first bike and it opened up the world to me.
* what's in your stable? I own 2 bikes...a Terraplane MRB and a full suspension Ti mountian bike I designed and built for myself a good 8 - 10 years ago. Still a wonderful bike.
* fastest speed on a road bike? where? when? 65mph coming down Wilton Mountian Road just north of Saratoga Springs. I came down this thing about 3-4 days a week when I lived there and one could sit up tall on the hoods and still hit 55mph.
* seasonal mileage - I took the computer of the bike last year and it was one of the best things I've ever done.

I can't seem to get over 47mph on La Jolla Shores Drive.

Lie: Honest Officer, I thought I knew the lady. About 2,000 miles on the road 2004. Favorite bike is usually the one I'm on--I like this whole stable and there's one for every mood.
