I freaking hate that the Times headline is passive voice nonsense:
"Track Cycling Champion Dies in Collision"

Howzabout 'Struck by a driver and killed'

Was it published or confirmed the driver was drunk / under the influence?

There are some reddit threads that include comments from people on the scene, including the person who pulled the driver out of the car and turned off the engine. The driver was reportedly speeding, crossed the yellow into oncoming traffic, and didn't realize he hit somebody.

I've raced with Ethan many times around the country. This is so, so, so ****ing awful.

So tragic. Another cyclist lost to DUI and unsafe driving.

Update on this. I didn’t realize the driver is 81 yrs old. Terrible tragedy.

What do you think would be fair?

Surprised none of the police or media statements mentioned wether he was wearing a helmet or not. They usually love to point that out to put blame on the victim. Like it would matter one way or another getting ran down by a person using a vehicle as a weapon.

its kind of funny how we have been conditioned to protect and omit the actual source, and name and blame the inanimate tool.

Making them ride a bike in front of a large vehicle until they get run down.

The judge has to approve the plea deal, and it's likely he'll reject it in this case.

Geez, this reminder brings back the sadness again. I was just riding at the Polo Field cycling track this afternoon, where I would see Ethan practice regularly on the track there. I would watch and admire his technique and perserverance. I am at that place often and I can't help remembering him whenever I'm there.

Yep, that's what I feel from reading the article. What blows my mind is that the prosecution even went there. ***!:mad:
