(Years ago, I sat across the aisle from Janet Yellen on a flight to London—she played Candy Crush for eight straight hours.)

Sweet Jane. Live Cowboy Junkies cover of the classic Lou Reed/Velvet Underground song.

It's hard to beat when you add a mandolin in a live setting, although it doesn't feature here. There's another version that features the mandolin a bit more, and adds an accordion as well.

The answer is invariably the circus Calliope music.

At the gym yesterday while on the treadmill I happened to watch an episode of Futurama, where they go to the lost city of Atlanta (not a typo!) deep under the waves. When they get there, as introduction to the place, the mayor has them watch a video narrated by "Donovan."

I got the joke, so afterwards I had to track down the real thing, and listened to this, which of course is now stuck in my head...

(Edit: If you've ever watched the movie "Zodiac" you'll never take Donovan lightly again.)

Going with my 12 yo son to see them on Tuesday. They're opening for Judas Priest but neither of us have interest in them.

Such a great cover.

I was listening to the alt radio station the other day (Live 105 … yay, it’s back!) when the DJ said she was going to the vault for a “classic.”

Indeed. Did any song herald the post-punk/disco and advent of the new wave era as much? It’s right up there.

I go through phases of classical overdose.

Currently, Bach's Cello Suites (all 6) and the Academy of St Martin in the Fields' Brandenburg Concertos - Orchestral Suites - Violin Concertos compilation have consumed my waking ear time for a few weeks.

As Ferris would say, they are "so choice."
