I hear this is where the new doping is happening. I mean Viagra is performance enchancing -right ?

Seriously- to compete in a Masters race ? For what ? A medal maybe ?

eh? I think I am going to hold off on judging here.

"refusing to submit a sample during an out of competition test"

Out of competition? What, did they show up at his house or his work? For a 63 yr old amateur who just got fifth at his State TT. Really? How many 60+ dudes even raced that?

I think there might be more to this story but if the USCF ever showed up "out of competition" at your doorstep, how would you react?

Besides, how many of the 60+ plus folks are already taking some medication because of some condition they have.

Another fine example of the USCF clownshow. Feverishly rooting out the rampant 60+ yr old doping scene.

Well done.

Could it be the Michael Diamond owner of Diamond bicycles?

Too bad he wasn't a continental pro. The uci would have banned him, his own country would have cleared him and by the time the court of arbitration decided his case he'd have retired.

I'd take the test....if I had agreed to abide by those rules. You make it sound like he may have taken too much fiber...Do you go to these races, or hang out around some of these guys. One of my best friends and teammates is Masters former national champion and podium'd at the WC's. He says he believes this is pretty rampant throughout the higher levels of master's cycling. He abides by the rules and expects others to do so. He trains a lot and takes it seriously, which may be laughable to some, but I can assure you it is not to him. I would say there is probably a little more here than meets the eye, and Mr. Diamond was probably suspected for some reason. Regardless, they're testing more....and I cannot remember a year where more guys have been busted for using legitimate PEDs...not testing for high levels of metamucil.

Let me emphasize "Out of competition." After a 5th place at the FL 60+ TT. Seriously not the upper level of the Amateur scene.
I have to imagine there are bigger druggies to catch than showing at some retired guy's house asking him to piss in a bottle after some 60+ State TT. Maybe the old geezer is doping like a Europro, but sheesh, I would expect better results than that.

In all seriousness, if USCF really wanted to stress how serious they were about stopping doping, I would focus on the younger crowd. Scare the crap out them BEFORE they get into doping. Far more ROI on that than boresighting on the retirees.

And oh yeah, I raced. Done big boy Nats back in the day. Won Districts & States. Got the palmares while holding down the full job gig for years.

Interesting:

Mike has been building bikes for himself for several years and built a 12 .2 pound road bike in 2008.
