picked up some really cheap barely used schwalbe fat franks yesterday on the way home from work, they look rad on the bike, and are totally fun if I have nowhere to go, but are SO heavy and slow if I'm actually trying to get somewhere (which i usually am these days). any suggestions on a 29er tire, slick, around 2.0, give or take, that isn't so damn heavy?? it's really amazing the extra work it takes to move these tires compared to conti travel contact 37's

Heard good things about the Schwalbe Big Apple

i like schwalbe marathon mostly because they last really long, never flat unless you forget to put air in them, and offer great traction. the larger sizes Ive found are good enough for fireroad and even some casual trail riding.

they are also heavy but roll well and are smoother than other similar tires I've used.

What width are your rims?

If they are not that wide you might get 35mm tires or even smaller to work.

The 35mm panaracer pasela is not so bad.

Kenda Small Block 8 29er tires roll really well on pavement at higher PSI.

+1, and although they aren't slicks, they do roll fast and grip well
