Last weekend I took advantage of some light snowfall at our cabin and loaded my Anvil CX bike, my pooch, Penny and headed out for about 2 hours of hiking trail fun.
It was about 28 degrees when we started out and Penny was raring to go. Smokey said the fire danger was HIGH, so I decided against a bonfire as a pre-ride warm up. We went about 3 miles in at a slight climb and then skirted the mountainside for another several miles before turning back. On the way up, I stuck to visible trails, but on the way back I let Penny trailblaze. In one pic you can see her far out in front leading what I was sure was a game trail, since I got pretty beat up by sages, low-lying branches and small pine trees. At one point we came across a tree that had been decorated for holiday cheer.
A fun ride that I don't get to do too often.

Very cool bike Steve.
Michelle is also a fan of Smokey.
Here is a pic of her with Mr. Smokey after winning a 10K in Bass Lake a few years ago.

Dancin...Penny thanks you.
Butch,
She usually rides up front with me, but this time she rode the 2 miles back home in the bed with the bike...she wasn't getting out.
It is a 2001 Dakota Quad Cab (4 doors)

Thanks for the pictures. The Heartbreak/5 Counties Centuries go right by there. It's a beautiful area. I think the weather can be treacherous this time of year.

Bud: You are right, weather can be treacherous. 2 years ago I left my cabin for a 2 hour ride up Mt Abel. It was 65 degrees and sunny at 6200 ft. I began riding up Abel, a 9 mile or so climb from the valley floor and by the time I got halfway up, it was raining and blowing with temps about 40. Being stupid, I continued to the top @ 8200', where it turned to sleet, then snow. I was drenched with freezing feet/fingers during the climb and the descent was worse. When I got back home I laid in front of the fire for about 45 minutes thawing out. That ride still defines 'Epic' to me: a bad idea followed by numerous bad decisions.
