As I recall George Mount was the first to make the trip. Anyone remember for sure?

Legend-pal, I don't know the exact number but one could argue that you can add another 1/2 to this guy "Guido Trenti" who rides for QuickStep as a leadout man for Boonen. He has ridden for the US in the Worlds and holds both US and Italian citizenship.

According to the RBR newsletter this week, Jacques Boyer was the first in 1981.

Good point. I had forgotten about him - American mom, Italian Dad and an American racing license so he can compete in the Worlds. Apparently he doesn't speak a word of English!

If I remembered an old post by Kirk-pal correctly, the last time he did that for someone on that list, he was screwed pretty badly and called a moron or something to that effect.... :D

Yep - typo on my part (I was thinking of Pierce). What's Shapiro doing now?

Who said anything about him not being American? I was simply pointing out his unique background.

George Mount never rode the Tour. He did ride and finish respectably in the Giro a couple of times--on a Merz frame painted in his team's Benotto sponsor colors and decals.
