For some reason the mountains have been calling my name and I got a crazy deal on a 29er....
Wish me luck as I venture up Westridge in the next few days.
I'll prob have some oh so stupid questions over the next bit. Such as - guy at the shop was saying I could put Stan's directly into the tubes if I remove the core? Is this right?
That's my first silly question. :)

No.
Well, yes, but it wouldn't be tubeless, you would just have a tube with sealant in it.
Congratulations on the new purchase!

What'd you get...details as I'm working towards the same decision myself.

Screw the tube.
I will echo my local bike stores sentiment and say you will miss some
of the advantages of a 29er by not going tubeless.
The LBS set up my wheels tubeless this year and I've had no problems whatsoever.
Have fun

Hairylegs,
Next visit to your in-laws, try and bring it along and give me a call...we've got some great rides for that bike.

My LBS isn't so keen on tubeless and say they are seeing about a 50% failure rate.

Other than certain tires or rims that don't work tubeless, UST is well proven, and Even with many non UST tires, work great. 50% failure using right tires and rims means they don't know what they 're doing I'm afraid.

I love my 29r but she's got a tacoed wheel at the moment. I hope the replacement rim is at my doorstep when I come home tonight.
