I have a black alloy seatpost that's scuffed up and I'd like to restore its matte black finish. Has anybody repainted a black post? If so, any tips on paint and technique? Thanks.

. .. you measure off the insertion point and don't paint that part. It would probably all scarpe off when you insert the post again anyway.

That's assuming you are talking about spray painting the whole thing. That would seem best cosmetically. Also go over it with some microfine sandpaper to rough up the surface a bit so the paint will stick better and then prime it, too.

I've painted a few metal bike parts and then baked them in the oven on low temp--150-200 degrees--and it's work well.

Wouldn't try it with carbon, though!

Thanks, Dave! I'll give it a try.
