A few great photos of our czech friend and his bike. And you all thought you had lots of saddle to bar drop!

http://www.sosenka.cz/foto12-2005.html

The rear wheel doesn't look much different than normal but was reported to be 3.2kgs.

Based on attendance, tickets must have been pricey! Neat bike, thanks for the pics.

looks like what the jerk figured hour record bikes would end up looking like with the new rules. the feat was amazing. he didn't even do the completely whacked out stuff like saran wrap around the pedals or even shoe covers. the keirin/hell's angel helmet is a nice touch though. any thoughts on who's going to challenge this guy? they're be a string of attempts now. the jerk's money is on jan ullrich being the ultimate hour record riding. constant, consistent gruelling power and a reasonable aerodynamic profile.

How many watts would it take.

The reason I ask is that Mick Rogers reportedly averaged 430W for just on an hour in his TT World Championship win last year. But I'm guessing that without aero bars/wheels/helmet 430 won't be enough.

Got to agree with the Jerk....Ullrich may be too big for the BIG mountains, but he seems perfect for the hour. Lots of raw power that he could probably sustain for over an hour.

Does anyone have more info on the bike? Are those 650 wheels, or is he just an enormous guy? What gearing did he use?

Thanks!

That kind of saddle/bar layout looks positively unhealthy. Nothing like being paid to suffer.

Not that I can read a word of Czech, but "Výška" doesn't seem to refer to wheelsize! The webpage (titled "CYKLISTŮV PROFIL") seems to be about Ondřej Sosenka, not his bike... I'm guessing that's his height - 2 meters is pretty tall!

So, anyone have info on the bike?

This report filed July 19, 2005

Czech rider Ondrej Sosenka set a new world hour cycling record at Moscow's Krylatskoye Olympic indoor track on Tuesday, Russian cycling federation deputy president Yury Kucheryavy told AFP.

Sosenka covered a distance of 49.700km, beating British cyclist Chris Boardman's mark of 49.441km, set in 2000 in Manchester, England.

The Czech rider was under Boardman's record from the outset, recording a time of 1:15.01 (to 1:17.891) for the opening kilometer. He went through the 5km point over three seconds up, and by 25km had extended his advantage to just under seven seconds. This continued to grow to 18 seconds by 40km.

The 29-year-old Acqua e Sapone rider is a time-trial specialist. The current Czech TT champion, he won the prologue of the Uniqa Classic and the stage 4 time-trial in the Tour of Belgium this season. He also is a past winner of the Tour of Poland and the Tour of Slovakia.

I walked into my pantry the other night, and found myself face to face with a little cellophane package labled, "Funghi Porcini". It took a few seconds to register...

Yum!

T-Mobile needs to hire this guy and let him ride tempo on the front for every freakin day in the Tour...the comparison is too easy, but, bigger, better, badder padrnos...would the rudy p connection be a problem?

not to mention...a serious motor for the TTT

What's with the weird Quicksilver-like bike changes (think Kevin Bacon coasting on his fixed gear)? The guy obviously sets the record on a track bike, but the next picture of him all hot and sweaty being congratulated by his own version of Sheryl Crow shows him on top a fully geared road rig.

its not unusual to have your road bike with you at the track because either you are warming up on the rollers with it or you rode it over from the hotel....

what is unusual about this bike is the rear wheel. i understand that it has some sort of flywheel mechanism in it that is not against the rules (and that it weighs a ton). the purpose of the flywheel would be to store and return energy, no?
this could all be heresay.. but i heard it, so i am saying it.

as for the drop.. well, he is 6'5"... so the boy has got some loooong arms....

"....he never wanted to see a bike again!" That's a quote  I know the feeling.

This record vindicates the decision to place severe restrictions on equipment, clothing etc. It's very cool to see this done. Dunno about you guys but I'm going to the bait and tackle shop to buy lead weights.

That looks like the same saddle/bar drop that's on the Skunkbird!
