man, that air had some bite this morning. first real cold weather ride of the season this AM to the train station in beautiful Newark NJ. had to leave at a whopping 4:45 AM to catch the right train this morning, and whew, it was a real wake-up hitting that chilly air after rolling out of my oh-so-warm bed.

anyone else ride this morning?

(Newark Penn Station pics, with the commuter fixie - for fun)

What was the temperature?
I didn't ride this morning, but I did go for a run. Yesterday it was ~50 degrees, today it was 62. Shorts and short sleeves both days, but arm warmers added yesterday.

Heavy frost on the ground, ice fog in the air down in the valley.
A beautiful ride to work this morning.

With all the damage locally from the storm, I've been on the trainer this week. But I was riding last weekend and the weekend before at sub 40 degrees..

I wish that my office were more bike friendly.. I petitioned for a rack for months, got a commitment, and then they never followed through. No shower, and I've grown complacent getting my miles in before work (better quality) than schlepping my backpack to work..

But on the same coin, I do miss riding to work.. hrm.

I've commuted this entire week alonside the Hudson River from near the GWB to 14th st. Getting darker and darker each day! I start at roughly 7:10am. The past two days it's been reasonable, but I was cold on Monday!

It could be I'm adapting. I've been racing in mostly 90F+ weather this year so was shocked after returning from Indonesia and being forced to endure a snowstorm then riding in sub 50F weather!

I rode yesterday started out at 6:50AM at 35 degrees, full finger gloves were a must for me!! Rode 46 miles on the MTB, 18 on the way to work and 28 after with a club ride. FWIW I saw the best view of our city last night that I have ever seen! Great night.

34 by me. Monday was similar. I've been doing this for a while now. I just hope we have less snow this year so I have a shoulder to ride on.

It was 53 here in Tucson this morning for my commute which was welcome. We have been about 10 degrees higher than average, it has been in the 90's and nearing 100 deg F some days in October.

I commuted in snow 22 miles when I lived in CO so I salute how hard core you are and also thanks for the pictures.

It was 40f when I left the house yesterday, but it felt a LOT colder. When I rode home, my GPS said 44f, but there were a few snow flakes starting to fall. Stopped to take this pic about three miles from home:

Woke up to 8" of snow this morning.

Yeah, how do you deal with all that traffic? ;)

The cows are the worst offenders--it takes longer to convince them to move. The prairie dogs and rabbits generally stay clear of the trail, though.

i live outside Pittsburgh, yesterday morning the temp was probably about 40. the temp was nice but man talk about fog!!!! by far the worst fog i've ridden in. half of my commute is on a rail trail, then the last few miles are on back roads, I was just waiting for somebody to run me over but luckily not a single car passed me from behind.

Gloves are totally necessary. Just got off a 50-miler, started around 4 PM at 64 degrees. By sunset, I was already shivering. By the time I got home, my fingers were tingling. I thought I could make it gloveless today.

I think it was in the low 60's this morning... I actually had to wear arm warmers for part of the ride... :D yeah, yeah I know but I'll be paying for it when I get stationed in Alaska next year.... ;)

by my truck temp at 6:30 this am on the way to work. 77 degrees by the time I hit the single track at Pt. Mugu State Park at 6 pm. The Santa Ana winds made the trip up the black bitch at least 3 gears harder coming out of the canyon. I have it rough.

anyone else ride this morning?

I went out at 7:00AM. It was relatively balmy by then!

Coldest ride of this season for me was last Friday 10/28, when I went out at 5:30AM and it was in the high 30s. I had one of those existential moments where I questioned my own existance, because no rational sentient being would have willingly gone for a bike ride in sub-40 degree weather wearing as little as I was that day!

But ordinarily I love riding with that crisp nip of impending winter in the air.

I left the house this morning (running again, not on a bike) around 6:15 and it was ~40 degrees and windy. I was in shorts, short sleeve shirt, arm warmers, and Pearl Izumi vest and felt pretty good, but I missed not having gloves.
