It hit 70 today here, hope some of the warm air makes it to the northeast, where it's really needed. Windy, but too nice a day to let go by without a ride.

Rode the Atlanta, which is just as I got it from ebay, Daytona 9 with Chorus hubs and Open Pros. Would like to find a zero setback post and a shorter stem, but haven't taken time to work on this one. Thanks to texbike for the Look pedals.

Not a very scenic route, as I had to run an errand and there's only 1 good way to get there. Wish I'd gotten a better pic of the wooden windmill, best I could manage from the bike. The guy collects and restores windmills, has 2 wooden ones, which are the only 2 I've ever seen.

Great pics Mark. Your Atlanta bike reminds me of my nhx. The thing is old, but timeless. I was thinking of taking parts off my nhx to build a cross bike. I want one, but if i do, the nhx may never be ridden again after it has been stripped down. But, the bike is too cool for that so am now leaning to getting new parts for the cross bike.

Ken, I hope you still ride the NHX, and keep it rideable. I really like mine. The Atlanta is actually closer to a CR or CSI because it has the tapered tubes, but yes it's pretty old, 1996.

You don't have to spend a lot of money on the parts to build a nice CX bike. Mine has mostly Mirage 10 with a triple, and it works great. The only functional thing I would change is a non Escape left lever, but I can live with it. I think I built the whole bike, completely new for under $900. Really don't need anything better.

these pix are so lovely it ALMOST makes me want to buy a second home where I can enjoy Fall. OTOH, it was 72 and sunny here and may be again on Dec. 15 which is a different expectation than for central Illinois at that time. We have to drive 1-1/12 hours east into the mountains to enjoy classic Fall weather/trees. I miss it.

Thanks for the replies. It's been a nice fall here, but we my not see 70 again for 5 months. October has the best weather of the year, but I only got to ride once. Definitely not looking forward to this:

Beautiful bike and scenery. Send that warm weather my way!

Much of my friends and family (including my brother and his 2 mo. old!) are still without power...

Alex, I'm sure we will get our turn, but at least it may be in the correct season. We had a heavy October snow a few years back, and I remember how much damage it did, with the leaves still on the trees. Hope you get rid of the current mess before then next one comes along.

Nice pics Bob, was hoping someone would add some. I would like to get out there again someday. Spent a lot of time in the area, but little in the city, and never with a bike along.

I have that same bike with flat-crown steel fork in red-yellow fade and DA-9sp gruppo. Looks and rides great.

I will be back in Illinois the end of November for Thanksgiving, looking forward to similar scenery.

Cheers!

Hey Mark,

I'm glad you're enjoying the pedals. Those are great pics. I'd love to have quick, easy access to empty roads like that!

As it is, we had an 80 degree and beautiful day here yesterday. I bumped into another forumite after work and managed to squeeze in a few miles before dark.

Cheers,

Texbike

I forgot to include a pic of Southern Windmill in Golden Gate Park.
10 years ago I was on a crew that dismantled the windmill.
I have been retired 4 years so I wasn't involved in the final rebuild.

This was taken July 2000

By Thanksgiving I'm afraid all the leaves will be gone and you have a 50/50 chance of snow flurries.

Dave and Paul: You're always welcome to visit. This applies to anyone else that's interested.

Bob: Thanks for the windmill pics. How old is it and what was its original use? Is it geared to rotate and driven by the tail fan, or is it set to a prevailing wind?

Nice country.
What gearing do you need for the hill in photo #4 ;)
