Electronic shifting is so passé.

Parlee Cycles's new bike looks ordinary enough, but the helmet gives it away. Plastic tentacles reach down from the headgear, pressing metal sensors against the cyclist's scalp.

This snug but comfortable helmet has a secret power. It reads minds.

Its array of neurotransmitters sends signals to a smart phone attached to the bicycle's handlebars, which then connects to the gear system. With a little training, a cyclist can change gears with a thought. One kind of brain wave commands the bike to downshift; another causes it to shift up...

From a bikesnobnyc post: http://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com/2010/06/flights-of-fancy-art-of.html

"...it is only natural that "hipsters" are slowly reinventing the derailleur drivetrain as well. Presumably we'll see a "boutique" rod shifter for the fixed-gear set by the time even Sora is fully electronic and everyone else is shifting with their minds."

Looks like he was right!

Don't shifts already start with our minds? Maybe we should call this fingerless shifting because it's the only thing being removed from loop.

I realize Toyota has the deep pockets to fund this thing, but I would think that Parlee would at least want to be the "Tesla of bicycles."

I would not want to be the "Tesla of bicycles" - trust me on this.

I have been inside the new factory, know people who work for them & work with them... Tesla = future epic fail! Think of their neighbor down the street - Solyndra. It'll be like that!

"Biking is already pretty energy-efficient, so aiming for a greener two-wheeler would do little good."

So let's aim for LESS-green by adding technology(production costs, material costs, research, more pollution) just so I don't have to use some muscles in my fingers! ***?!? These guys are a bunch of douches...
