I'm hoping this is just superficial and still rideable. It's a dt xr 4.2d rim btw.

What rim is this? Anything visible on the inside?
It's quite deep, I would be looking for a replacement but riding it in the mean time. Keep a good eye on it!

dt xr 4.2d mountain bike rim
Looks to have been smacked by a rock or something.

Wish it wasn't so close to a spoke hole.

I would. Save a couple of bucks a week and keep looking out for stress cracks. I bet you get enough money for a replacement rim before you need to replace it.

Definitely ride it. Man, that's just a flesh wound.

Oh yeah, that's purely cosmetic on a beefy mountain rim like that. Ride the hell out of it. (*** Insert usual disclaimer legalese here ***)

I would ride it and not think twice about it.

I would ride it too.

I almost have the very same question as I tacoed a wheel in a race yesterday. I had to take the wheel off and place it between two points on the ground appropriately and jump up and down on it till it was almost straight. I was actually quite surprised how straight it came out. I was a bit paranoid descending fast but I finished the race. Now I'm wondering if I can still ride it after tweaking it in my stand.

A good question with something like this is: What's the worst that could happen?

Short of something really bizzare, the worst thing likely is that the rim will crack through and flat the tire, which could be a little messy on a descent, but all flats are messy on descents.

I'd ride it. Someday the rim will likely crack at the spoke hole, if something else doen't happen to the wheels first.
