I can MIG weld about that well. It's really the difference between a TIG torch and a metal shooting squirt gun...

I hope it isn't Vanilla's new "Surprise Me" welds.

I know it isn't (of course) but it they were, some of you guys would say they are cool (especially if it had a pink Rapha stripe)

It looks like a repair job done by an inexperienced welder. There are few bikes i wouldn't ride, but that's one of them.

Looks like it was done by a one eyed 12 year old between cigarette breaks...

Yikes, one of the best bike boom era bikes of the time, at least out of France.

I thought for Motobecane bicycle frames were just accessories to help sell Shimano grouppos.

Is that a crack in the DT-BB weld in the second pic?

I'm an old school BD hater but unfortunately their products tend to deliver.

I'd bet dollar to doughnuts that most of the problem is the cheap Cr-Moly the frame is made from. All their other welded stuff looks pretty good.

I'm not into judging bikes based on dime stacks, but I'm pretty sure this frame would hold up just fine.

Agree with this. Well. the new ones, the old ones are classics.

its hard to tell from the first pictures because you are trying to see through glare on a black painted frame... I'll admit the welds don't look that great, but I don't think the pics are a very true representation IMHO... regardless of the welds, I bet the bike is solid...

BTW- we had a handmade bike in the shop the other day and I was looking at the welds... they looked as bad or worse than these look...

Motobecane isn't the old Motobecane. I think BD owns the brand name. Same with the Windsor and Mercier bikes they sell. The bikes are all now made in Asia.
