I visit the forum daily and often wished there was a better insight in to the daily cool bikes shipping from serotta HQ - some of the 'personality' and culture mentioned being missing in the other threads ... well i found where it was all being put - on FACEBOOK! i'm a facebook user too but never though to look it up.

http://www.facebook.com/SerottaSport

Tons of great posts, pics, interactions, fans, customer bikes, cool bikes from the factory.

I'll be sure to check there more regularly.

Whoever the Serotta employee is that is posting to that site - should make it part of their job to 'spread' that same great content to the Blog and the forum. A little would go a long way.

From the site...

David Kirk, Kelly Bedford, E-Ritchie, Toyo - those dudes hang there too. I was a hater but like any tool it's how you choose to use it!

I don't do Facebook very often but will check out Serotta more often to see the "eye candy" on Facebook and learn a little bit more than their website shows.

I don't do Facebook, and I don't even "get" it.

Is it so much harder to put this stuff on a blog?

Agreed - whoever the serotta person is that posts content on FB should cross pollinate!!!! I'm a FB user but don't even go there often. Blog/web/Forum reaches more people. I think lots of people are too skeptical of FB to go there hence the need to post everywhere...

I agree - it's dead simple to have your blog automatically feed into facebook. So whoever is doing that could update the serotta blog and FB at the same time. Once it's set up all the person needs to do if make a blog entry and its a done deal.

Worse that that here, where the view is decidedly bipolar. Officially you are supposed to "Like" them for brownie points, but there is a whole rulebook concerning ones online presence and boundaries. It is made quite clear that BB is watching. Safer in the long run to just opt out, both personally and professionally.

Facebook got rid of the anonymity that plagues the web. A generic "SerottaSport" is just as un-interesting as a blog (Who is SerottaSport?). SerottaSport is completely missing the whole reason FB has taken off, its the only place on the web where people aren't afraid to use their real names. Do NOT do the same thing with this account as a blog.

Now if Ben Serotta were on facebook or twitter, he could leverage it to have followers or friends who would know what his vision is. Its the one-on-one feeling people get when interacting on these social mediums - and it could even be a two way conversation, unlike the forum posts which seem to always be forwarded by our moderators. Its like getting updates from my VP or CEO through some intermediary at work. Zzz.

On a business front as well, FB will allow Serotta to datamine about real users; this is the reason to invest in FB. There's a HUGE cash potential with this information. Don't think of it as a violation of your personal information, its about the clusters - what demographics are friends of SerottaSport, where those users are (IPs, GPS), their other "likes" etc.

IMO - a worthwhile and engaging blog takes time to craft and requires thought behind the words. Facebook is better for quick n' easy, off the cuff updates without spending the time and energy in front of a computer. A blog that's nothing but FB style updates isn't a very good one. Just my 2 cents...

I agree - IMO the writing needs to be worth the time to the reader. Even if it just takes 2 minutes that is two minutes that they have devoted to the writer and that they will never get back. Real content is key.

Great looking bikes. Glad you posted these pictures because I don't spend time on FB, and don't plan to either. This is definitely blog material, and with quality writing. Getting the Serotta message out is far better done via blog than some social connection media that you have to log on to then get all kinds of spam email.

Yo, Serotta: I am not going to sign up for Facebook. There's a bunch like me out there. We also buy stuff. We just don't spend time on Facebook. That's how we spend more time working and accumulating more discretionary income.

Exactly.
I'm over 40, love bicycles and have plenty of disposable income.
I have never used Faceyspace and have no intention of starting.

dear mr tom,
i do agree. from my perspective outside the window, facebook appears to be mainly about navel gazing and friend collecting. people are nuts.

Dude - time for Heather's team to Occupy Ceceri's Events. We gotta beat the drum. She'd be into it, they're old pals from her ultra days. She also has that guy Bugbee on the elite team, if it's who I think it is he won the UMCA 24 hour division last year. People don't have to go insane with John's races, he does a 100 miler at the Saratoga event and the one lap race at the ADK 540 is a great time.

I'm succeeding at the 12 hour and the 270 next year... progressing from there.

Of course I'm wasting all the incredible weather this month but from the looks of things we should be good well into January. See you on the road some time?

Facebook is a bad idea.
Last thing I need is to register to a system that will inundate me with friend requests, asks for my email so it can be drowned in crap mail, and other unpleasantries.
Make a blog, make it free, make it easy to reach for computer morons. AND OBVIOUS FROM ANYWHERE ON THE SEROTTA FORUM, EVEN THE RESTROOMS!

Me, caveman of cycling. See pictures. Am happy. Urgh.
