If you can chip your cat/dog, makes sense this tech should flow down to bikes. Wonder why this phenomenon didn't catch on sooner as bike prices keep going up and up and up.

Lojack and OnStar allow you (or them) to track your stolen car (and even disable it, if I recall.)
The chip in your pet needs a special scanner to work, so Fluffy needs to be at the vet's (or the pound) for it to work. Bikes have ID numbers now, and the widget in the article embeds some nice additional info in case of recovery, but it won't help find the bike.
I-phones can be tracked (there was an amusing article in a recent New Yorker magazine by someone chasing down their stuff after they left it in a taxi), and maybe the next generation of integrated GPS/power meters/DI2 will have it, but we're not there yet.

BTW, anyone else watch the classic Italian movie, "The Bicycle Thief," the other weekend on TMC? Powerful stuff.
