I think we can file this under ***!?!

On my early morning ride today I did a double take on something I spotted in the road. "No way!" I turn back around....yup. Let's just say on the rest of the way home motorists were giving me a very wide berth. :D

Heavy rattan/wax wood shaft and a solid metal head and tip. This does not feel like a Halloween prop. Probably a Chinese MA demo spear.

What have you found on the road lately?

My greatest find was a 18" adjustable spanner  ...It's great for getting cassettes off but was a little bit of a hassle to get home.

Yet, in all certainty your find is an order of magnitude cooler

In my training plan, I have what I call the "looking for money" ride. The pace is so easy that you can check if there is any money laying on the side of the road. One LFM ride I found a 100 swiss franc bill! Sometimes it pays to go slow!

Chris,
Good, you found it! I'll come pick it up later today.

I found several wrenches, a stuffed toy for my son, and several water bottles that get cleaned and inspected (only the perfect ones stay).

The spear is cool. But the spanner is a nice and has many more uses other then stab, stab, throw, stab. ;)

I've found lots of Craftsman tools: screwdrivers, wrenches, a tape measure, a miter box (!).

Never anything cool like a spear... although a buddy found a fairly nice S&W snubby revolver in the grass at a local park in a not-so-great part of town.

Yes but will the spanner make the natives restless?

I found a cell phone that I truly believe belonged to a drug dealer. I called the most recent number dialed and it was a rather strange, intimidating conversation. I believe I was asked whether or not I'd either a) bumped off the owner or b) was a cop. But after some explanation the gentleman agreed to put me in touch with the owner. He came to our office lobby to retrieve it and was quite thankful.

Hey William, like many others I have found a bunch of stuff on the road and there is even a wall at my office were we put the lost items. I'll have to snap a picture of this and post it. But I did have a similar experience as your recent find when I stumbled across a machete! The only way to carry it was with it blade pointing straight up and I felt pretty funny riding home carrying this :D

I found about $600 and a guys ID once. Returned it to him and he gave me $100 with an explanation that he left it on the seat, made the turn and the door flew open, and the money slid off the seat.

But last week, a big dead turtle, then about 20 yards past, a big dead armadillo. My wife didn't like the explanation that this armadillo snatched up the turtle and was running up the road on it's hind legs and got hit by a car, killing both.

I found a set of screw drivers a few years ago, spread out for a couple of miles. I figure that a tool bucket fell over in an open pickup truck and they shook out one at a time.

One beastly hot summer day, I was riding on a country road in a hilly rural area and came upon a GIANT fish of some sort, like a carp or catfish maybe. It was huge. It stank. There was no body of water anywhere near by. I have no idea how it came to be there, maybe somebody caught it somewhere else and then just threw it out the window? Who knows.

I wish I could find the picture ericspin sent me one Saturday. It was a box for an appliance that would be used by some to "ahem...enlarge a certain part of the male anatomy" It was beyond a doubt the funniest thing to find on the side of the road. Needless to say the picture was taken from a distance of a 10 foot pole.

That is a wax wood spear. It is indeed for Chinese Martial Arts. I have a couple from years of Kund Fu. If you get it damp then put something heavy on it, you can get rid of that bend and make it straight. Have fun but dont hurt yourself :-)

Last winter I was JRA when I spotted a Pearl Izumi winter glove on the side of the road. Although it looked pretty clean, I didn't figure a single glove was going to do me much good so I just kept going. About 5 minutes later I spotted the other one!

I circled back, grabbed the first one, took them home and washed them (they looked brand new). Ended up giving them to a friend who still uses them. (They were too big for me)

I have found a couple of cell phones that I returned. one guy gave me a decent reward.
One pair of Henkel kitchen shears that we use daily.
1 crescent wrench.
a pair of PI tights that i returned to its owner. through the bike club website
a small bag of medicinal herb!
i recently found a garmin oregon 400t GPS on the trail. I tried to return it but no luck. I tried using it and it kept falling off the handlebar mount I purchased for it... no wonder it was lost!
i found a 5er once. my son found a 20! he is 6 and was psyched!

I found a 15 mm Matco wrench. It ended up being an expensive find, I was so enamored with the way that wrench felt I ended up buying the whole set.

I've found an iPad and a Blackberry in different locations. Returned both after some detective work. Both owners said they left them on the roofs of their cars.

Once during a ride, I found a mans wallet w/ cash and credit cards on the sidewalk of a busy street. I took it home and got in the car and delivered it to his house since I new where it was. His elderly mother answered, and I explained to her where I found it and she just shook her head and closed the door in my face without so much as a thank you.

Don't ever touch armadillos. They carry leprosy.

I always say that too, but I found out there is no documented case of them actually transmitting the disease to a human. Maybe to turtles?

I found what I believe to be a cow's tongue... it was wrapped up in canvas.. So when I saw it, I got excited, thinking I was about to unravel a big wad of cash... but it was a tongue. And worse than that, it was sewn up on one side, and spilling out of the stitch was a bunch of maggots. I figured it was somebody's voodoo tongue.. maybe left it on the roof of their car?

I saw the front door and wall of a Little Tikes playhouse on the side of the road this morning. I figured it was too big to carry back to our display of stuff found on the road

I found a wallet with over $300 and multiple credit cards on Mt Evans after the hillclimb, run, a few years ago. The owner had placed it on the trunk of his car while changing in the parking lot and forgot to retrieve it before driving home. It stayed on the car through all of the switchbacks near the summit and fell off just before the upper lake. Got a nice bottle of wine for returning it.

I always find SAE standard sockets... just about useless for bikes. But once a pair of blue handled Channel Locks. I still have them. Oh, and once a checkbook. The address was nearby so I went over. No one was home so I left it stuck on the door.

I go by a local golf course almost daily and used to get a lot of wayward golf balls. I say "used to" because they put up a stone wall a few years ago.

Another "left it on the roof" wallet. Ended up being a college student whose parents lived just around the corner. She was ecstatic I found it and very gracious when I returned it.

-Needle nose plyers
-Innovations co2 inflator
-$60
-minipump I lost in the woods a year earlier
-Oakley M frame sunglasses

Haven't found weird stuff, but once was riding by one of the county jails in rural NC, and saw two guys in orange jumpsuits come out of the woods and run across the road, away from the direction of the jail.

My riding buddy and I debated whether to ride to the next gas station and call the cops -- before cell phones and all -- but opted against it.

Found a working rear Cateye in the road a couple of weeks ago. Went to the LBS, bought the bracket for it, and now I have a cheap 'new' winter red light.

Found a pair of cycling glasses in the road earlier in the year. Wore them until they broke while on holiday.

Found a pair of empty pannier bags in the snow a couple of winters ago. Brand new condition. No idea what the story was there - really bizarre.

Found a whole bike in the woods in Bavaria this summer. Walked past it for several days before deciding to make us of it. Very useful it was.

Haven't found a Serotta SuperComp yet though.
