My brother in law was telling me about this:

3D Printing Video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZboxMsSz5Aw)

Nothing to do with bikes, but still a pretty cool technology....thought some here might enjoy it.

Aren't all new carbon bikes just cranked out on a 3D printer?

The person getting the house project works for this company and they "printed" the house plans and addition. Pretty cool stuff. They can texture the surface to look like real siding. Supposedly this is targeted to big architecture firms. I am sure this is wicked expensive.

There was a company years back that did something similar with plastics and lasers on a three dimensional axis. Looking at manufacturing prototypes. They seem to have disappeared from the public radar but I bet they could pop out "plastic" frames pretty easily (not quickly).

3d printing is expensive, but not terribly so. Lots of information on the net.

You can even make your own a la 'cheap' - well... kinda...

I toured SRAM's offices in 1994, and they had one of the liquid versions of 3D printing. They made their shifter prototypes with it.

There is a metal process like this now that produces useful parts.

A guy I use to work with had a 3D printer that he bought to make robot parts. He made me and a couple other guys custom fit green lantern rings.
