ok...because doof can't breathe on this code red ozone day, the intervals were done on the trainer, on a sunny 95 degree day

anyway, did the first interval in 53x19 90rpm...the old standby...ughhh

did the next two in a 39x16 spinning 100+, watts higher, started low and finished high...hr lower too

doof will put on a 52 ring before the crit sunday...small is where its at

170s / 52x12 or even 13 as top gear on a straight block. One of the best crit riders I have ever known rides this combo. the 52 can make you feel good. - Matt

44/50 with an 11-23 ten speed cassette gives an older guy a nice range of usable gears. Call it "semi-compact"?

This is exactly the combo I used when I was crit racing....and while I was probably a long way short of your guy's talent it helped me bring home the flowers on more than one occasion.
