Sorry for the delay, it's been a busy week!

Day Two of Dirtphalt dawned crisp and clear and five of use gathered at Craig's absolutely beautiful summer place near Cooperstown for another day of dirt roads and fall foliage.

From left to right, that's Craig (CSB/Manet), Johny (Johny), me (BBDave), Eric (CNYRider) and John (JohnMDesigner).

. . . cruise and talk on one of the many beautiful dirt roads.

Craig and Eric were kind enoughto point out several places I could get ahead and get good shots of them coming toward me where there would be good views, and the rest of the guys were wonderful in soft-pedaling it for a while so I could get ahead and be ready.

. . . in Craig's neck o' the woods . . .

. . . local residents, too! As soon as I stopped, these guys came trotting right across the field to say hello.

. . . the local crazy cat lady lives here. No this is NOT Craig's summer place.

Note the name of the road!

As if they needed directions. Both Craig and Eric have ridden extensively in this area and Eric told me it's extremely rare for either of them to see other cyclists--unless they happen to encounter each other.

. . . descending a hill on one of the seasonal roads.

. . . this sign a lot. Many of the local ridges have a decent road coming up both sides--with a "seasonal" segment connecting the two. So lots of chances for dirt roads in the back end of nowhere. It was great to have Craig and Eric as guides and know that we could enjoy the scenery and riding without worrying about getting lost or getting left behind if we had a mechanical. Fortunately there were few of those.

. . . and scenery. It's the kind you can never get tired of--especially this time of year.

Forgot until very near the end that I didn't have any pics of me.

This type of riding is exactly why I just got a cross bike. Looks fantastic, thanks for the pics.

I don't race, but it's like the 4-wheel-drive of road bikes. Perfect for me, since I don't like to do technical MTB stuff, either. Just ride on the roads that are less traveled. Cross bike does it all for me!
