Windy as hell here (40 MPH gusts), getting ready to go out and get blown around. Did 32 miles yesterday in similar conditions, crosswinds were really a handful.

Oh well, time of year and all...

40 and felt really good until those 30mph winds kicked in, look up, aw shizzle, wicked dark clouds and nice pelting rain at about 60F. Good ride turned into caution with all the leaves/pine needles and wet roads. Glad I took some light gloves.

The big Montrose ride here in SoCal. Over a hundred riders and not one word spoken by me or towards me. When I ride is the only time I can keep my mouth shut. Anyway, the weather was perfect, wind wasn't too bad, one easy sustained climb. Got a flat in Hollywood an hour after the end of the ride. Doing the other big LA ride tomorrow, LaGrange Nichols Canyon. It's shorter but harder. I think that was the name of Linda Lovelace movie in the 70s...

Ken,
Which 29ers did you test and what was your favorite?

40 single speed miles of single track on the Black Sheep Highlight ST running a 32/21 gearing. 4400 feet climbing and the view on top of Overlook trail with 200 miles either way of the Pacific Ocean was epic.

1st Day of the Hilly Hundred with 4,000+ riders. 57 miles and 5,000+ feet of climbing and all major hills have max incline of 10%+ with the max being 24%. My Garmin barimetric altimeter measured the max as 21% unless I blinked and missed it which could have happened since it was all I could did not make it up. I switched from a 12/27 to a 12/25 last year and plan to switch back to the 12/27. I wish I had purchased a new chain and 12/27 cassette and switched to it for the ride and then switched back until the 12/25 cassette wears out. Too late now, darnit.

Sunny skies and temps ranging from the high 40's at start to a warm 65 degree by early afternoon. Temps are supposed to be even warmer tomorrow. Wind was strong and very gusty all day but hopefully will be calmer tomorrow.

I am hoping I can make it up the hills tomorrow but I rarely ride hard on back to back days and nothing as hard as the two days. We will see how it goes. I have two good riding buddies that I am doing the ride with so that helps a lot.

Gorgeous in KC today. 50 miles on the new Peg. Sunny, light wind and 52 when I started and 66 when I got home. Hard to beat this weather (and the Peg :) )

40 miles one way from Denver to Boulder. Nice weather and low key until the wind kicked up 2/3 of the way through. Still not too bad and nice to stretch the legs for the first time in three weekends. Had the misfortune of running into the Occupy Boulder morons as they raged against the machine but ended with a very nice brunch at The Kitchen with my wife, son and father-in-law.

To top it off, came home to the news that a new (for me) Zanconato will be on the way soon. The garage is getting crowded and i love it.

Portland Oregon checking in:

Portland Velo Saturday Signature club ride this morning. Weather started foggy and damp with wet roads from last night's rain but the skies cleared and we finished in sunshine. 40miles with 4 good climbs and about 75 riders total. We break our rides up into "average speed" groups w/10-15riders per group- Hammer 'n Nails, 21mph, 18-20mph, 16-18mph, 14-16mph.

Great day in the saddle with what looks to be an entire week of good weather for the Portland area.

Did 52 miles total with 2 good friends today, rode from Northeast Bergen County, NJ Northwest up to Suffern, NY then East to Congers and Rockland Lake, NY, rode the path along the Hudson River from Rockland Lake to Nyack instead of climbing the hill over 9W South from Rockland Lake to Nyack. Stopped for lunch in Nyack then did the final 13 miles back home. We had some wind but it wasn't as bad as the weather forecast said it would be.

I took a 1.5 hour hike with my wife, then got in a quick 30 miles today through vineyards then to Lopez Lake on roads like this. Beautiful riding weather, but we're on the lookout for grape harvesting trucks...they haul a$$!

I rode along with lots of riders doing the Solvang Double Century. Also in the area today was the SLO Gran Fondo and the Santa Barbara Century. Three major events on the same day...too bad I didn't have time to do any of them.

Rode up the Mt Baker hwy to Artist Point this morning by myself.
Saw a few fall colors

And for the first time, I was able to go beyond the Ski Area. I usually ride this earlier in the year when theres 10-15ft of snow on the ground - in June!
Ducked under the gate to head up to Artists Point;

And ran into snow. Had to walk the last mile or so

My first time to Artists Point. The hikers up there were very puzzled by my appearance. Oh and that's Mt Baker in the distance.

Northbend that's just not fair...and you had to rub it in with the MX-leader that has color accents to match the fall foliage. Ugh.

Mods feel free to lock the thread now, it can't get any better.

Just got done with the 2nd day of the Hilly Hundred in Southern Indiana. Rode with my daughter's Little 500 team, their coach and some other folks. About 8-10 of us. As legs got tired of riding into the big gusts, other riders hopped on our train and at one point we had 40-50 riders tucked in behind us. Great weather other than the nasty wind. About 9000 ft climbing over the 2 days. Lots of riders out, lots of choppy roads, making it difficult to hold wheels and keep a consistent speed.

Seagull Century on the Maryland Eastern Shore. (pretty tame compared to Mt. Baker!) The weather was super sunny, but also super windy. There were lots of people, but they now have 3 versions of the ride. There were lots of people there, saw rider numbers in the 7000s.

and falling in the leaves. pretty awesome cx ride yesterday. got myself good and lost on the quad trails across the road from my parents' place in the country. spent 2 hours holding on for dear life and getting all my fillings checked by endless hills of rocks covered in leaves. gorgeous. cloudy. rainy. cold. lots of embrocation. great times.

10/15 - Went out when the temp was just a bit shy of 70.. forecast was for wind but 0% chance of rain. Went out in shorts & took arm warmers. About 25 miles in the weather goes hellish and the temp drops to around 50 and I get stuck in driving rain for the way home. The ride was somewhat salvaged by rescuing an australian shepherd running about in traffic. - 33 miles.

10/16 - Beautiful weather - did 46 easy miles.

Good week for me for october.. 214 miles, and there was 3 days of rain, 2 of which I didn't ride.

Edit: Actually, I did this ride on Sunday, not Saturday......

Got 58 in today and would have loved to keep going, except I had a time constraint. Just a gorgeous fall day outside Boston today. Big, puffy clouds, a bit of wind, and perfect temps around 60.

Wife and I drove to Berlin (pronounced BER-lin out here), and biked together for about the first 15. She headed back to the car, and I meandered my way home to Hopkinton. It was one of those days with not much of a route plan, and just taking a turn to see what that road was like, and where it went. The area we were in is wonderful riding - Berlin, Bolton, Harvard, Sudbury, etc. Lots of farms, apple orchards, a vineyard, and 4 loose sheep in the road at one point. The apple orchards were packed today.

This is a shot from a popular sunset-watching site on Prospect Hill Rd in Bolton. That's Mt Wachusett in the background.

Northbend, gorgeous pictures and an even better looking bike...

Is it blue? Similar build I have on my MXL. Unfortunately, the MXL I found in my size is in probably my least favorite EM paint scheme...anybody want to trade me for one in the Telekom scheme?
